Hey all, I just began fingerpicking a few days ago and I notice that my ring finger (which seems like the finger I'm using the most for the picking) gets really sore. Is this just because it's developing a callus (like the one's I already have on my left hand) or am I fingerpicking incorrectly? Should I pick with the flesh of my finger or with my nail or what?
Thanks

If it is the surface of the tip of your finger that hurts, then it is fine. Some people pick with their nails, some people use the tips of their fingers. Nails give better tone and dynamics, but it means you have to grow them and file them. If the pain is in the joint, then i'm not sure what is causing it.

Yea, it's just the surface of the tip that hurts, the joints and everything are alright. Yea, I heard that using your nails give you better tone and I'd be very willing to use my nails if they give me that but I find it would be difficult picking with your nails, guess it just takes time. How long should I grow my nails to?

I grow mine to about 2-3mm. Experiment and see what works for you.
