OK, here's my recording of Panama. Its one all one take, mistakes and everything. I had one take where I nailed the solo, but later realized that my "mic stand" (being the back panel to Omni's MTS propped up with a Carvin distortion pedal, and the mic balanced on these) had fallen over...so I did another take and kept it.

Panama! (http://www.soundclick.com/artist/8/crazypinballmachine_music.htm)
It takes a little while to clear through soundclick's system, so you may have to wait a little...

Gear used: Dean 79V with brand new strings (no name brand that I got for free, I already don't like them very much)
my Marshall AVT50
Carvin T01 overdrive with gain all the way down and volume all the way up. I switched this on and off for the intro, solo, choruses, and the verses and breakdown respectively.
The ever faithful karaoke mic and homemade "stand"

Enjoy!

My hats off to you, I never could play it that good! Nice tone for it. Rock On :D.

Nice. I really liked the tone. Pretty close to the brown sound!

Thanks, I'm working on that VH tone, and its going pretty good. Theres no way to really get the tone I'm looking for without a nice tube amp, but you can get decent approximations without that nice of gear. The carvin overdrive is a terrible overdrive, but if you turn the gain all the way down and use it as a boost, it tends to smooth out the sharpness of the solid state AVT50 at least a bit.

Pretty good! Now you need stripes on your guitar! :D

Only thing I can say needs work is your timing. Pay careful attention to your timing on those little harmonics sections down on the 4th fret just before each chorus. If you can't nail the harmonics from 4 to 5th fret change (I know it's tough) then just don't make the transition. It still sounds fine if you just hit the initial 5 - 4 - 4 harmonics two times through. Making sure your timing hitting them is crucial since the band cuts out while the harmoics are hit so missing the beat or straying off a little is catastrophic.

But other than that and a few other minor timing issues, I really enjoyed it. The notes were all right for the most part so you've got your work cut out for you. Timing is easy!

very nice you have it down pretty smooth. also as others have said the tone is really good.

Thanks a lot! Those harmonic transitions are by far the hardest part to nail, the drums are totally off the beat on their hits in those measures, which makes a great sound, but makes fitting those in pretty tough. I originally did what you said, FRPC, hitting each set twice, but then I decided to try to make it sound more like Eddie's version, the results of which you can hear :o . About the stripes, I just got my floyd and custom 5 today, so I'm getting closer... :D

Add a Mesa Stiletto amp to your list of things to buy.

Check this junk out.

Guitar is a carvin bolt kit with a seymour ducan custom 5 pickup. Guitar plugged straight into the amp and cranked with the variac switch set to spongy, 50 watt setting.

Amazing brown tone. The stiletto is the greatest EL34 amp on the planet aside from mabey the Bogner Ecstacy but given the Stletto's $1400 price tag, it's a bargain.

My fiance said that she'd help me pay for one for christmas so to say I'm excited is an understatement. :D

Holy Crap! Yeah, that ones on the list, too, though I wouldn't mind if they would lower the price  . It would be my first choice for a new amp if it was cheaper! Man, I want a tube amp REALLY bad now, but I don't know what to get that I can actually afford any time soon.

Keep saving for an MTS. Best advice evAr!

I know, the MTS rocks  ! I kind of want something with EL34s, from the amps I've heard, but I guess the MTS can use those too. Arg, I wish I could get a stiletto or something awesome like that, but a Legacy or MTS may be more realistic.

Hmm, I'm also trying to decide on the paint job for my guitar. I'd kind of like to do something more unusual than the frankie, but also VH related, like the Unchained guitar or something, but pretty much all those other designs are one pickup, no pickguard types, so I don't know how they would look on a strat style pickguard...

Dude, do this. Black and white frankie ROCKS!

Yeah, that one is cool, its definitely one I'm considering. I could also do a combination bullseye/stripes thing, or camo with stripes, along those lines. But its hard to decide :o . Well, I've got some time since I need to install the floyd before I start painting.

Make sure you drill those floyd pivot holes PRECICELY. Your intonation will go down the crapper if you screw up.

Luckily thouhg, warmoth strat bodies routed for floyds are relatively cheap. :D

Yeah, I'm gonna make sure I do it right. It seems like the best way to measure is to go 25 and whatever inches (Frankenstraat or someone suggested the best length, I can't remember now) from the nut, and that spot is the exact middle between the centers of the two mounting holes. I don't want to spend the money on the stewmac templates, I think I can do it myself with all the resources over on the EVH forums. Unfortunately, the FR site had almost nothing on mounting a floyd flat on the guitar, the diagrams all have it floating.

Edit:
Luckily thouhg, warmoth strat bodies routed for floyds are relatively cheap.
yep, thats plan B :p

I play with miller in a band and we're not sure we both want to be playing MTS's though...

Well, looks like he'll either have to buy a stiletto or i'll have to sell him my MTS and buy a V3 :D

Just cant win

Arrgh :alien: ! I would like an MTS with EL34s, or maybe I can ebay a Legacy or X-100B. The 6L6s don't seem to have that smoothness that EL34s have, from the clips I've heard. They seem a little more metally (as in the genre). I don't have any money now, anyway, and when I get a car, gas will literally eat all my money :annoyed: . But I want TONE!

i agree with redfast, you seemed like you were rushing a bit tt, the harmonics before the solo went fast coz u missed the cue a bit, apart from that well done. i'll start recording some stuff after christmas as i'm gonna get a guitarport.i look forward to hearing you're comments. :)
