well i finally figured out how to record onto my computer using audacity and other useful programs. i used a crappy sony kareoke mic. i only took one take of this song because i was so anxious to get it up on here. :p so dont be too hard on me now. this is also my song of choice to play at the talent show this year. let me know what you think. i improvised in a couple parts because EVH is just too good. :D

not bad at all... very good. the tone matches it pretty good too its just the recording is a little staticy which is probobly because of the mic. but overall its really good. i think you have a good shot at the talent contest.

thanks. yea, the mic is junk, i didnt do anything to the recording and my soundcard is probably worth less than my eli manning football card. im gonna do some tricks when i play it at the show, so it will be better.

Good Job. Just out of curiosity...What was your setup when you recorded it?

i was using my ESP, noise supressor, dyna comp, metal zone, and a delay/reverb from my amp. i was using my crate V-series. it was only turned up to around 2, though i wanted to really crank it. the mic as i said before is a cheap kareoke mic and i used a shoebox for a mic stand. i didnt know how to mix it at all, so i just left it alone.
do anyone have any suggestions on how i could mix it to make it sound more clear or get rid of the static? it would be very useful to know how to do that.
PS. it took me 4 hours just trying to convert it to mp3... :(

Ok to get rid of noise record a litle bit of just the staticy noise. When you wanna create noise I suggest trying to make static by boosting gain, stand right next to your amp, get rid of the noise suppressor. After you have noise recorded highlight the noise and then click the tab for effects. Click noise removal and then when that opens click get noise profile. Then record what you want to, then highlight your recording, open noise removal and click get rid of noise. I also suggest using the Equalizer on audacity. I hope that explanation makes sense cus it's hard to explain. Anyway good job. I guess even a cheap mic sounds better than the line-out. I am thinking about buying a used shure PG57 to get better recordings shortly.

yah thats how i felt about eruption when i first started, but believe or not 5-6 months after i was able to play it, dude you gotta give yourself more credit than you do because as lame as this may sound if you believe in yourself more more accomplishments will come to you but if you have no confidence what so ever you wont get that far at all.

Sounds pretty good, you just have to mess with these programs to get good sound, it takes some getting to know all the features and stuff. Your playing isn't bad either, how long have you played? And does that amp have tubes? I can't remember...

It is true. When I started playing guitar I thought crazy train and master of puppets were some of the most difficult solos I'd ever heard. Then one night I sat down and said "I'm gonna learn the crazy train solo". I played each part slowly over and over again, then moderate, then fast and by the end of the night I learned it. Same with master of puppets.
MagicNelson that is an awesome cover. Great tone. That is better than I can play it. Is your guitar one of the models made from agathis or mahogany?

thanks everyone.
Millertime- my amp does have tubes in it. i have EL34s in there right now. ive been playing since i was 8 or 9 but have been playing seriously for the past 3 years.
backinblack- i bought mine awhile back before they made the H series' out of agathis. im glad it's mahogany becasue it definatley gives it a fatter tone.
P.S. my parents took Audacity off of my computer because they said it was taking up too much memory or something. so i dont know if i will be able to record anymore songs.
