The thing is i was playing by barring across the 7th to save the quick shift in first finger position where i put the *. But after a while i got a sore 1st finger as a result, probly cos i wos holding the barre to firmly :(

So how do you all play it? do you barre or shift?

fizz, thats the very first 'solo'. I dont usually play it there, I usually play that higher on the fretboard, but a string lower. and that way you can barre it. if you're gunna play it where you said, then I'd just shift

Yeah since posting this ive practiced shifting my 1st finger and its ok now. plus i think it sounds better because i dont then have the F# ringing out while im playing the notes on the G string. Thanx neway

id just go with shifting your first finger back and forth on the 7th fret between the strings. then use your 2nd and 3rd fingers for the 8th and 9th fret.
