trouble with elderly woman

I'm trying to learn to play elderly woman behind the counter in a small town, by pearl jam. I have a tab for it but I can't seem to figure out what rythym to strum the notes to. Normally I can just figure it out by listening to the song but for some reason I cant get the tab to fit with the music, and I'm fairly sure the tab is accurate cause all the different versions I've found are basically the same.

Any kind of help or advice would be welcome

I wouldn't try and play exactly the number of times for each chord that you see indicated. They will strum a slightly different number each time through. But the basic strum that you should try is as follows.....this is in 6/8 time, that is probably why you are having the trouble.

The number indicate the counting, and d = down strum, u = up strum. Beats 2 and 3 are in parenthesis because you are going to miss those beats. So you are going to strum up and down without hitting the string. Just keep your hand moving constantly down and up at the same rate.
