View Full Version : What guitar do you play

Levinson Blade

Just to get a feeling for what the forum play the most
ie Strat, Tele, SG, ESP, Jackson ?

I have a Levinson Blade it's similar to a Strat and costs about the same to buy but it has a few enhancements like a humbucker at the bridge nice wood finish, Wilkinson Trem I bought the Blade because I wanted to be different from the crowd and I am really plesased with it.

Hey Levinson Blade.

My electric is an SG with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates at the Bridge and 59's on the neck.
I changed P/ups for the same reason. A lot of guys around my neck of the woods play SGs, and I wanted a more bluesy sound. I pick my own sound and I don't fret about it.
I use several different amps, all tube and 100 watts or above. I have this thing about being heard. Hee, hee.

My acoustics are,
Gibson J30 E
Yamaha APX9NC
Lyle Classical
Dean Preformer with raised Saddle for bottleneck and steel sliding.

Yamaha Classical
Takamine G-330S Acoustic

Well, as you can see from my user name, I play ESP guitarz. I love ESP and Jackson guitars. I haven't been too happy with Fenders or Gibsons lately. They seem to be riding on their name. Their quality isn't very good for the price. I don't like Fender's neck's and everyone has a strat, I go against the grain ;)

What I've got:
ESP:LTD Viper 300
Epiphone Les Paul Special
Squire Tele (POS)
Kalamazoo SG (around 37 years old)
Vantage 4 string P-Bass w/ 22 frets
two POS acoustics I got when I was 9 or 10

Crate GFX-212 (wanting to sell)
Crate GX-15 (wanting to sell)
Fender Frontman bass amp (wanting to sell)
Marshall JCM900 1960A 4x12 cab (never going to sell) :)

I've just got me a GRRREAT Z-X.

The DEAN version of the Gibson Explorer - I looks MUCH better.

It has the V headstock, is jet-black -

I customzed the pickups - it had 2 dean zebra pickups - it now has the EMG ZAKK WYLDE pickup set!!!!! - serious sonic attack!!!

Plays like a DREAM!!!

I'm also getting an Epiphone Les Paul BLACK BEAUTY. with 3 gold pickups....etc etc...
:D :) :o :p ;)

Thats Fun!!!!

Levinson Blade

There seems to be no Tele players out there
I find that hard to believe!!
It is interesting all the different guitars as I said I dont like to follow the crowd just because of a name on the headstock and it seems im not alone

ESP_Viper

Yo, I'd love a nice tele. But for my normal playing a dual humbucker guitar just does the job so much better. I can tap it to kinda get twang... but nothing like a nice tele :). My squire tele sometimes sounds good, but it's just a cheap POS that I can't stand to play because of the feedback I get with it. It's not worth putting new pickups into it.

I play an ibanez JS 100, on a crate gx-60c amp (hate it, liked the older crates though), and I have an applause strat copy as well.

SteelSlider

mjamer.
If you decide to get a replacement amp for that crate, I'd recommend a tube amp. Any brand you can find and afford. Tubes are much better than solidstate.
I use a 100 watt Music Man tube amp now, used it for years. My cousin just got one. They sound better.
Not knocking your choice, just passin' on something I learned the hard way.
If you do get a tube amp, you can switch tubes around to get the exact sound you like and want. It's a bit tricky, but the results are rewarding through sound. Something that's a bit hard to do with soildstate.

I dont know why, but i really dont like Tele's.

I dont like Fenders for that matter!!! ANY of them.

Guess I'm just a non-conformist freak!!!

Jackson and Fernandes make great guitars, that are really my style.

Another Question, I wont start a new thread:

*********************************************
WHAT DO YOU GUYS USE YOUR DIFFERENT AXES FOR?
*********************************************

I use my Dean Z-X (explorer) for launching Huge Thunderous Riffs (rhythm)

and I use a Les Paul (when i "rent" it, for solos - ala Slash)
(lead)

And If my band has 3 axemen i usually borrow my mates Jackson and we have a 2pronged axe-attack with our new axeman on rhythm.

I gotta say though, I like playing Huge Riffs and playing rhythm. I dont like the attention being on me on lead!!

SteelSlider

Hey Chugga

*********************************************
WHAT DO YOU GUYS USE YOUR DIFFERENT AXES FOR?
*********************************************

I play a variety of music. Primarly the Blues, but I like to play some classical, country, folk, jazz, R&B, everything, except squaredance music and rap.
My Gibson SG is my front line weapon when I play lead. It doesn't matter what style of music, I can make the adjustments, sound wise.
My Gibson J30 E mic'ed acoustic is my folk and country music maker.
My Dean Preformer, mic'ed acoustic, which I rasied the bridge and is nearly impossible to fret now, I use for slide blues and country.
My Yamaha APX9NC Acoustic Classical, mic'ed also, is my new baby and I'm still getting use to it. Though the name Classical is on it, it has a narrow neck, nylon strings.
Then I have a Lyle Classical, wide neck. I play, Classical on it.
Each guitar has it's own tone and feel. Like a fork and a spoon I suppose. Ya can eat with either one, but each has it's own function.
My next guitar will be a Martin 12 string. The wood is perfect.
Just my choice and comment.

I may be getting a Gibson Les Paul for about 50-100$, it's basically never been used, After that I may buy a strat style guitar, that's probably it though.....

i play a BCRICH NJ Series Warlock, USA made, imported to lovely Great Britain, with the Queen and i,
so yes, the guitar.
i bought it with a case for around £570 the case was £90 on its own, the coffin case, i have a thing about soft cases....:(
the axe has standard pickups which im definetly going to change to the Zakk Wylde Set as soon as some finance comes in, i need a job....damn government, i blame my entire situation on them:mad:
and another thing, the trains, you cant get anywhere on time in london because theyre always delayed. and the busses, dont get me started. i had a yamaha pacifica for a while, it was a really nice guitar, had a real bluesy feel.
i also have a very funky strap?
:D
i want to get a flyin V guitar sometime soon, Which one should i go for? any suggestions?

My guitar is something called a "Harmony". Hey, it's my first guitar and I got it for free! And it is nicer than the $100 ones in the used music store, even tho' I've never heard of the brand name. I must admit that I start to drool every time I see a Taylor though. Guess I better start saving up the moolah!

I currently have a Bradley Acoustic W-300 and am hoping to trade it in for something smaller, with a longer neck and better strings. :D I have my eyes set on a Baby Taylor right now, those look really cute, and are ideal for my small hands and fingers, but I dunno yet, so we'll have to see when I do to the store. :p

I currently play a Fender Classic Series '60s Stratocaster, but I always have somebody to borrow instruments from, like my uncle who lives with us owns a '72 Gibson Les Paul (which was previously owned by my father), some kind of Gretch guitar,a Charvel Jackson Bass (also previously owned by my father), then my friends let me play their Ibanez's, Fender's, Gibson's, ESP's...etc, my father lets me borrow his Fender Strats, and Tele, but I cant convince him to let me take his Taylor custom shop acoustic to play any shows.... but i can understand that since it set him back a few thousand bucks. So as you may have noticed I have managed to immerse myself with musician/friends that trust me with their instruments (BTW I always put new strings on their guitars when Im done with them, so its kind of a side bonus for them) I am considering saving for a PRS guitar (though that will take forever) cuz I have played several, and the quality in sound as well as looks is amazing, in fact the only downside is the fact that they put a HUGE dent in your wallet.

Chickwithapick
11-13-2001, 04:28 PM
Yeah, I'm probably going to save up for a Taylor Big Baby *dreams of playing a Taylor...man, thought that was an impossible dream!*, because they're only $428 brand new, which isn't too bad for a 2nd guitar, if I wait a while to upgrade, especially since the super beginner used guitars were $100, and I got my guitar now for free! That's definently my plan for future guitars. And maybe a Taylor 810 someday *sighs* How beautiful! Ha, now, THAT is the impossible dream!

I am now down to just four guitars:

Alvarez AD60k
55' Gibson Birdland
65' Gibson ES125TC
O'Hagan Strat ('77 or '78)

I have had as may as 15 guitars at one time, these seem to fit all my needs, but, may buy a gut string guitar. I still use my old fender tweed and mic it.

Schecter_dude
11-14-2001, 04:35 PM
Hey you guys,

My weapon of choice is my Schecter C-1. I got it two months ago, and replaced the stock humbuckers with a pair of Seymour-Duncan "Ducnan Distortion" SH-6s. They sound real nice. Plus I restrucng it with Dean Markley "Blue Steel" Strings (Medium guage). I also got a Jerry Horton signature (present) which is nuts as well... but I only use that for the songs I'm real good at. I also got a Squier Strat which was my first guitar. But it's got crap pickups, so I hardly play it now.

11-16-2001, 07:15 PM
well I play an Ibanez RG 270, and my amp is a Vantage VG15. I'm saving up to get a Peavey Triple XXX and a cab. THen I'm saving up for a Jackson RR1.

squire strat, although not through choice - im your standard poor student haha.
good enough guitar, but the pickups are worse then terrible - deafening feedback at every chance. plus some of the wiring keeps coming away (some of the internal wiring is currently un-soldered and held together with blu-tack)

Passed through my marshall g50rcd amp sounds ok as long as you arnt killed by feedback, especially on the neck pickup.

i prefer my 12 string yamaha acoustic to anything anyway haha its great, most beautiful sounding guitar ive ever played, which is probably why i bought it instead of a new ibanez to replace my strat haha

i also have an old old (as in possibly 30+ years) acoustic i bought off a friend. its completely ****e, if you try and play anything but basic open position chords it sounds completely dead. especially compared to my gorgeous acoustic 12 string :D :D :D :D :D

did i mention i like my 12 string? lol

Schecter_dude

I have a Ibanez RG series too, but I'm not sure wich type. Has anyone an idea about how to figure that out? Also he is totally normal, haven't altered anything on it so it's just a plain one. I us a Crate amp becauz' of the great overdrive on it. (very heavy). for my effects I use a Zoom pedal.

this guitar is just beautiful....if you look at it on the washburn site...one thing...they say the neck is maple but its not...its mahogany...

i just got it yesterday and we took my husbands cousin with us so he could play for me because until now ive played an acoustic (i also have an ibanez performer and my husband has an old old gibson lg1 i play from time to time)...
now...this guy can PLAY...hes been playing over 20 years and when he was testing it for me he couldnt believe how nice it was for the price...he couldnt find a single thing wrong with it....perfect intonation....beautiful neck....good balance...and such a range of sounds....

if you are ever in a store playing around give one a lookover...i think youll like it...

I have an Ibanez semi-hollow with a duncan Seth Lover in the bridge and a Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck, but within the next few months I'm switching them out for Duncan Antiquties...

I also have a Epiphone goldtop with Gibson P-90 single-coils, this baby sounds mean and raunchey, whereas my semi-hollow sounds thick and creamy(soon to sound even better after the pickup upgrade)

Last, and certainly least, a cheap, crappy acoustic that was my first guitar(it's actually not so crappy for a beginner guitar) Currently setup with 13s in Spanish tuning and painful action for slide playing, although I inadvertently end up grabbing one of the electrics and playing them instead

I have (I would say I play but I don't do the guitars justice)

Washburn D10SCE acoustic, in black. Don't play it much.

Fender Mexican Telecaster, in black. Nice and twangy, good for bluesy stuff and country.

Agile LP3000 Prestige Slim Neck, of course in black. Have not touched my other guitars since I got this one.

Some day I will get a resonator, probably a Fender FR-50, and I would be willing to bet it will be black.

LMAO!!!!!!!!
