First I'd find out what kind of guitar you have ;) Then I'd go and get a songbook of your favorite artist or band. Make sure it has chord charts at the beginning of every song for the chords in the song (most do). Then just start playing! Start with the easy songs and move up. That's how I taught myself. I'm no expert and I still have alot of practice until I get really good and I might try to take lessons sometime (depending if I can find time) but it's a good start!
