This is a pretty short lesson, and I'd really like some feedback:

A few years back, I realized something that I now call natural-harmonic modulation. It's basically the use of modulation in which a dominant seventh chord functions as the bVII7 in a minor key as it's approached, but when it's left, functions as a V7 in a minor key a minor third up. Starting in D, a simple progression would look like this:

D minor------|
|-F minor
|| Dm | Bb | C7 | Fm ||

The notes of C7 are C E G Bb. In D, those notes are the b7, 2, 4, and b6, which all fit in the natural minor. In F, those notes are the 5, 7, 2, and 4, which all fit in the harmonic minor, hence the name natural-harmonic modulation.
