Hi

Seems like every time a thread comes up about favorite guitarists, it's always about lead players. Now for a change name your favorite rhythm guitarists.. if you have one. This means no Vai, Satriani, Hammet etc..

My favorite is Malcolm Young from AC/DC.

What do you define as rhythm. Is it any guitar part which is the main guitar part to support vocals. Or is it strictly chords and riffs????

I would define a rhythm guitarist as someone who is in a band that already has a lead player. It can be the singer or not. So yeah, it's mainly chords and riffs. Or it can be any guitarist from a band that never do solos, like some punk bands etc..

Paul Allender - Cradle Of Filth

HE shares solos with gian the other guitarist but he does the more complex rhythm stuff, while the other guy does a solo or summin.

Hm.. I don't know if Dave Mustaine could be classified as a rhythm player.. he does plenty of solos you know.. ;) Megadeth are (were) one of those rare bands that have two lead guitarists :D

i think dave would get it because he sings. if a song has 3 solos, dave would only do 1 i think. i dunno!

By coincidence I got Megadeth's Rude Awakening DVD yesterday, watched it today. Although I was not counting, both Dave and Al Pitrelli seem to play an equal amount of solos, each one getting their turn, and sometimes they play in unisson. Near the end Dave announces Al as being 'on lead guitar..' ..oh well.. :)

Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore have come up with some of the most murdered riffs in history.
