amp settings

I have a couple of questions:

1) What is gain??? (I've seen amps with dails that say this)

2) Does reverb really make a much of a difference in sound and are there any amps with this built in???

Gain is volume, but at the start of the amp circuit so it controls the distortion. Set the gain for the amount of distortion you want, then set the master volume for the volume you want.Older amps only have one volume control, so it is more difficult to control the distortion. Reverb does make a big difference and loads of amp have it built in.
