Singing

Hey I've been playing guitar for about 6 years now and can play basically anything I want. I just started to try to sing as I play but I can't seem to do the two at the same time, I always mess up. How do I fix this problem. Oh and how do u learn to sing well.

That's normal and happens to everyone in the beginning I'm pretty sure. And it's strange that something that should be soo simple and natural makes such a mess out of your right and left hand movements :D I had no clue on how to make the next chord or how to keep a coherent strumming pattern when I first tried to sing and play, but as with all things, it takes practise and some more practise and it will come to you and feel natural. Funny that you only tried to sing after playing for 6 long years.. :)

I will be easier if you know the song (singing side) by heart, so try sing it without playing along.....

......good singing....- just the same as with playing guitar: practise.....tune yourself, keep watch of the breathing for a basic....

My way to cope with singing and playing it the same time is not doing one of them automatically without thought, but to work out places where your singing and playing fall on the same accent. Then use such points as "orientation" points for your singing rythm so that you can understand how your singing should interact with your playing...

anyways, it becomes easy after some time...

You get used to it :) I couldn't do it at first either...I still can't with some songs...but like everything else with guitar, the more you do it, the better you get at it!

well i too have been playing nearly 6 years too

i wish i could say 'i can play anything i want!!'

as soon as i think i'm getting good i hear something that blows me away......oh well..... keep praticing i guess!

funny though, i have never had a problem singing and playing together. may be because i sang the songs i was trying to learn in the beginning such as 'leaving on a jet plane' lol.

For years I couldn't play and sing, but then it just sort of came to me one day without any coaching or practise, like some sort aweful sounding phenomenon, just keeping waiting and trying and soon you'll be playing stairway to heaven and singing.
