HI
Well I think of it this way if you like the way it sounds and it dosent buzz and you think you got a good price for it then it is a good guitar to start on. I started with a gibson epiphone and some my say that it is not a good guitar to start on. But if you like it then it is good for you. :)
Hope I could help

At least get a guitar with a solid wood front, so it sounds decent. A cheap guitar will be discouraging.

I agree with doors girl. If you like the Santa Rosa, good enough, use it but, go down to the guitar store from time to time and try out other guitars in your price range. You'll know when to trade up but don't do it too soon. Wait six more months and suddenly there'll be a lot more in your price range and you'll be a lot more discerning about the quality of the guitar. If you know someone with the skills, get them to set up the SR properly.

ok, you guys out there seem to really know a lot about guitars, even when it comes to brands, so  .....
I bought my guitar at least third-handed from a flea-market. I really like the sound, because it's very warm and smooth, so I don't want to give up my »first love« so quickly.;) But it has a nasty tremble on the open A-string, so I wonder if I should have it repaired.:(
Now the question: Is it worth it?
The guitar has a label inside, telling »alabama model SC 308«.
Does anyone know, what kind of a guitar that is, so I may decide better if to repair or kick it and buy a new one?

Did a search on google. You sure this isn't a center fire deer rifle huh? Okay, being sneaky like I am, take it to a couple of luthiers and ask what they figure it's worth. If you like what you hear, and they are pretty much giving you the same price, pick the one you like and have it fixed. It might even just need adjusting.
