On the intro or the verses? On the intro its just a swing beat with open strings on the upbeats. To emphasize it realy come down hard on the down strokes(he always attacked his guitar rather than played). If you mean on the verse then its exactly the same thing except you deadstrum the downstrokes. The reason it still follows the 12bar blues is because his bassist is playing behind it and he throws a lick in between pauses in vocals. Hope that helps

Sorry for the mix up but i ment to put how he played the intro but i also wanted to know how to play the verses but one question. how do you deadstrum? on some of his style of songs like that are there certain chords your should use for the deadstrum beat or is it just the open string muted? thanks for the other information i got a good idea now

I dont know what its really called but its not a palm mute so i call it a deadstrum. You can do it ono of two ways. On Pride and joy he does it with his left hand by just laying it across the strings to give you a "chik" sound. You can also do it with your right hand liek kurt cobaind does alot by laying your hand on the strings before the pick comes across. Just make sure your hand is above the bridge or youll get a Palm mute rather than a deadstrum.

Forgot your last question. A deadstrum doesnt use a chord because there is really only one thing you can do to change the sound. The lower your left hand is on the fret board the more ballsy sound youll get and the higher the more tight itll sound. Other than that the only thing that should be put through the amp is the pick coming across the strings.
