I bought an electric guitar a couple weeks ago, but it doesn't have a whammy bar... It's a Stinger X-25 and has a little hole close to the bridge... is it possible to buy just a whammy bar and install it onto my guitar? or would I have to buy a new one to get it?
It sounds to me that you should be able to just buy the bar, and you can buy them from most music stores, but take you guitar as there are different fitting types i.e. threaded or not, it does rather beg the question why you didn't get one when you got the guitar, maybe it isn't setup for it, there might not be any springs in it so you'll need to have it set up properly.

It would need springs regardless of whammy bar or not. If there were no springs the bridge would fall off from the string tension.
It does sound like it can take a whammy bar. Just be careful, when you do a whammy pull it will go out of tune. Lubricate the nut (it sounds sick i know). Shave pencil lead into the nut before you put strings on it. This allows the strings to slide more freely hence keeping it in better tune when doing bends or whammy pullz.
you can screw a strat style bridge down tight enough that you don't need the springs in the back (I think) so it's worth checking.

hrrmmm.... well I don't really like strats :). So I am no master on them by anymeans. But, I am pretty sure that you need springs no matter what.

Pencil lead graphite for lubricating the nut. Sheesh!!! Why didn't I think of that.

The guitar was used when I got it... just got it at a pawn shop
It looks like it does have springs on it (there are springs connected to where the strings go into the body)... anyways, thanks for all the help :D
