I know I have been posting topics about my inability
to use theory or my unhappiness with my playing.
Oddly tho after about 2 months of shelving theory i decided to work
on a totally different approach.
What i like about this one is it can be used for anything.....
exact scale theory or simply a device thats HELPS you instantly
memorize notes of your choice all over the neck without forgetting them.

I figured out that there are 15 different patterns that can be memorized
on 1 fret using strings A thru B and only 2 patterns using E strings only
on 1 fret.
For each A-B string on 1 fret I memorized a letter of alphabet
here goes........

-------------x---------x----x-------x----------x--x---x---x------------
----------x--------x------------x---x-------x--x--x-------x-------------
-------x---------------x--------x-------x---x--x------x---x-------------
--x----------------x--------x-----------x---x-----x---x---x-------------
...a.....b..c...d.......e....f......g....h....j... ..k....L..m...n....o....p..............

The cool part is that Now we can make up words and sentences to help
us memoize where all the notes are we want on fretboard.
Words that end with a letters.....a-n contain both e string notes
Words that end with letters.....o-z donot have e string notes.

Using this logic I memorized where the minor pentatonic notes are
depending on where the words start depends on the key.

Paradise ....Rarely...looks...daring...columbus..orange...r acy....
laughable...doors...halls..gigantic..rows

Starting this weird word order from the 5th position
helps me find the correct notes in A pentatonic minor
Starting it from 1st postion would be F pent.minor
starting from 8th position would be C pent.minor.

Also this works for improv too.......Im using it more for this.
Since theres only 15 patterns I decided to pick more common letters
for these.I left out I...Q...R..S..T..U..V...W..X..Y...Z
These words can be used when no notes a-b string are in play.
A word such as rows means The entire fret contains no useable notes.
Race would mean only e string notes are played.

This system obviously is geared more for chords and would be harder
for linear stuff but its still a way to help memorize.
15 different patterns to play and memorize as you wish.......
I dont think it gets much easier than that.

If i were to spend more time on the sentences that would make it
easier bigtime.Feel free to come up with a better minor pentatonic sentence.

Updated version............
Well as you might have guessed this thing doesnt work too great
on scale theory But i did notice that a simplified version
has really opened my eyes on how to see the fretboard differently
while loosely improvising.
Heres how it works.............
I may sit down with guitar and decide to improv using
CE......H.....F patterns
Then let my mind/fingers go to town restricting it to those patterns

----------------------x---------------------------------------
-------------x-----------------x--------------------------------
------x---------------x-------------------------------------------
------x------x-----------------x----------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------x------------------------------------------
I can experiment thinking in movements like this in close postions
far apart and chromatic movements................
-----------------------------------------------------------
--------------x------------------------x---------------------
-----------x------x------------x-----------------x----------------
--------x-------------x-------------x------------x---------------
----x--------------------x------------------x-------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
This would be a..b..c..d....movements with h pattern

---------------------------------
--x----x----x-----x-----x-------------
--x----x----x-----x-----x---------
----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
J movements

This is simply a way to break away from typical 3 note per string movements
and typical 1 note per fret mindset.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------x--------x---x---------x--------x----x---x---x----------------------
--------x-------x----------x------x----x---x----x-------x----------------------
-----x--------------x------x---x-------x---x--------x---x----------------------
--x-------------x-------x------x-------x--------x---x---x-----------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
...a..b..c..d.......e...f.....g...h....I...j...... k....L......m....n....o

Figuring out which if any to use the E notes is all thats left.
Im working on that.

that's pretty insightful but I like to just memorize notes of scales. :-P
