Hmmmm, infinite??? I dont quite understand.

Somtimes I create a harmonic and it rings out for a long time.

Or could you have created a feedback loop? A feedback loop is when the sound coming out of the amp vibrates the string(s) and creates a loop which will continually grow is volume, a vicious circle.

Lots of distortion and turning the amp up loud will help but it's a bit hit and miss. Hold your guitar up to the amp and experiment with the position.

I hope this helps.

Fernandez makes an infinite sustainer. It's located under the bridge pickup and i *think* it fiddles with the electro-magnetic field, keeping the string ringing. I think it also works with chords, as in David Bowie's Heroes.

There's also a magnetic widget that you use as a pick, but it only works on one string since you have to keep it hovering over the string. Sorry, don't know the name of this thing. It's about the size of a bike handle so you have to switch back to a regular pick afterward.

The guitarist in the middle use it for about 10 seconds somewhere during this 1 hour and a half performance:

EDIT: he uses it around 15min 40sec up to 16min 40sec.

I think i did it when doing an harmonic, but really, the sound was continuous, i hold it for about 40 sec, then i got bored and i stopped holding it. Im pretty sure its not feedback because i know what this is and it does it at maximum volume. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!

The only way to get a note to last forever (without a Fernandes thingy) is to use feedback. It's not the high pitched squeal kind of feedback, but you do have to have have the amp turned up high. If you vibrato a note, it helps it last longer too.

I think the magnetic thing you are talking about is called an E-Bow, if you are thinking about the same thing that I am

40 seconds, wow, how hard did you hit the string?
