View Full Version : Great Finger Stretching Exercise

For those in need of good exercises who have made it past the chromatic scale already, I have a great exercise for you guys that really puts your fingers to the test. This was given to me as something my teacher made up and it helped me greatly. I will label each fret with what finger you should use above the tab as well. Think of this as a variation of the chromatic scale.

That's it. After that, just keep repeating it, and go down the neck with it. when you get to the last measure, start with 8-9-10-11 and continue on until you get to the very end of the neck. Enjoy!

Now maybe double the distance between the frets and you'll be half the man that I am!

Cool little exercise! As a beginner, without large hands, this is great practice! :)

it's also a good idea to strech your fingers through out the day, fully extend you fingers about 20 times once or twice a day (hold about 5 secs) also bend all of your fingers at the knucles (like curling your fingers) and hold again for about 5 secs this will help keep your fingers limber when you are not playing

at the moment I am learning the G major scale, that is a stretch and I feel after learning that the rest will hopefully come easier, during the day at work I do what Denny Tryon says, stretching my fingers putting some pressure on them then stretch them some more :eek: slowly seem to be getting better,,, the winkie is slowly coming good getting round some of those strings and hitting the correct fret :D
