View Full Version : New Rock Guitar Talent situation

Well this has always been on my mind: It's obvious to see that the talent pool in guitarists today is running dry, rock today is dominated by bands where guitar has either taken a backseat to catchy vocals, or the guitar is used as a simple subsonic farting device. I'm waiting for the day that people get sick of the simpleton music and labels start looking for guys with musical know-how and talent. The day I can hear a kick ass solo on the radio. I have a dream that one day the guitarists of pathetic bands such as puddle of mudd will learn a chord progression besides G-A-D. I have a dream that one day guitarists such as the guy from linkin park will be able to brag about more than their pathetic natural harmonics they do on almost every song of their cd.I have a dream of a day where lyrics will have subject matter other than teenangst and the guy from that band staind will learn to grow up and stop being a wuss. I have a dream that one day I will walk to my nearby music cd retailer and purchase a new cd and have the satisfaction of listening to a new fresh sound. WE MUST BAND TOGETHER LIKE OPPOSITELY CHARGED MAGNETS. WE MUST SMITE THE ENEMIES OF TRUTH AND JUSTICE. WE MUST RID THE WORLD OF TERROR.
Any thoughts guys?
This thread is basically, what new guitarists and bands to you hate?

i feel the same way. music today is blackened by pop singers and boy bands from those stupid shows like american idol. i wish guitar would make a bigger stand today.

We could flood the networks with letters to have a guitar version of American Idol. We could call it American Shredder or American Virtuoso or something.

Personally I don't care if guitar takes a stand or not, the thing I'm actually wanting is GOOD music. Whether it be with people who can actually sing, people who know how to play more than chords, people who know to drum more than a simple 4/4 time signature, or people who play more than 1 note a measure on bass.

dot forget, we need to evolve past the 5th power chord
I totally totally agree with you man.
People today actually talk up those guys from Korn, Papa Roach, Hoobastank, Linkin' Park, Limp Bizkit, Puddle of Mud, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.
They all seem to be trunks because they only play a few power chords and don't wail away in mid song. I think that it's not that there is no guitar talent out there, but what todays "guitar heroes" need is AMBITION, and self confidence and to have the nerve to solo and not give a damn if the records sell.
