I've just recently bought an acoustic guitar and i'm wondering which begginner guitar book is the best?
I've been looking around on amazon and people have given the complete idiots guide, guitar for dummies and 1st Steps for a Beginning Guitarist Volume One good reviews.
Also is it essential to get any guitar tuition? Will it really make a difference? cause if i can avoid it i'd rather save the money and learn from books.
Thnx.

HI
Some of the books that I have found good to use are any one by Mel Bays. They cost around $20 canadian but a good books to start with. They teach everything from the notes of the guitar to music theory. Or there is the Alferds books I dont know the exact title but it is a good book to get too. Also try this web site out you can learn alot of things on here from alot of people at all different levels. Well I hope I could help you out :)
Have a good one

Hi there!
The Doors Girl has given you two good suggestions for books to start with. Mel Bay is an educational publisher. (You would not find a Megadeath tab book published by them) They do have some very good educational products. They do not update their materials as often as some of the other publishers. So, if the book was written in 1950, the pictures may be from 1950. This does not make it a "bad" product by any means. Just wanted to give you a warning on that!
The other publisher that she lists, Alfred, is another educational publisher. I am guessing the book she is speaking of is "Alfred's Basic Guitar Method". This is also a nice selection. I believe it has been recently updated. There are a few different levels to this method.
Of the two, I like Alfred better...but I am sure other people have had great results with Mel Bay as well. If you are near a library system, check there! You may be able to borrow these and see if you like one better than the other.
