that was about the 4th song i learned, stairway. ive been playin for two years, and that solo is a joke, all it really is is the minor pentatonis scale, but just added a few minor pentatonic riffs.

i could improvise a solo that good.

(iam in no way NO WAY critisizing jimi page, he is my inspiration, but that song is, well a joke.)

Well maybe you are just so good

If a solo isn't freaking fast and hard do you think it's "a joke"? I don't think so! And I bet this isn't the world easiest solo anyway.

the Stairway solo may not be very hard to play, but look at the structure of it and you'll see that it's a masterpiece. Note how Page gradually tenses up the solo by moving down the neck, getting higher and higher pitched agains the static background, building up colossal harmonic tension. He then diffuses this with a repeating pattern, before building the energy back up with classic question and answer phrases. Awesome.

It took me about a year of playing guitar to be ready for Stairway, and about an hour to learn it (good memory+I heard the song about a billion times)

dude..........its a simple solo, and i admit it sounds good. but it is very easy to make something like that. There is definately feeling in it, but everybody allways makes a big goddamn deal out of it, but it is just a bunch of pentatonic riffs, i mean cmon.

when you have written and performed an equally good song, I will have heard it, and will acknowledge your point.

MAN! Isn't every solo built from a certain scale?

i think youre good, but i really think you don't remember where you started, jim is your inspiration and you call his song a joke? how did that happened? you admire a creator but not his creation? see? all you could do is improvise...sorry for that,ok?( no offense:) )

How could you say that Jimmy Page is'nt a great guitarist that solo is rated #1 in Rolling Stone Magazine for best solo ever. I mean i dont know that much about talent or anything but I know that Jimmy Page is a great guitarist, and is also my inspiration.

Hmm.... What do you mean when you say "good"? Becuase there are many perspectives of good. There's good your egotistical ears and there's good to people who have minds. As Hannu already stated, a solo doesn't have to be fast to be appealing to one's ears because a solo is just a melody that compliments the song. How dare you say you could easily make up something that was crafted by your "idol" who is an incredibly talented musician. And it's not just a bunch of minor penatonic riffs... Your just trying to find a way to label it to make a delusion of you being a "special" guitarist. I can bet I will never see the day that you even come close to making anything as musically accomplished as your "joke" song.
