effects question

I have a question, I'm thinking of buying 2 effects pedals (wah wah and distortion). Would I need a special amp to do that because on my yahama practice amp there are no place to plug the effects in or anything, do I need a preamp or something???

all you do is instead of putting the cord from your guitar straight into the amp you put it in the pedal and the have another cord going from the pedal to the amp. there should be a line in and out places on the pedal. if you do get an amp with effect line in/out you could put the pedals in though that.

Distortion and wah pedals are not good for effects loops. Especially parallel effects loops. If it is a series loop or it can be switched from series/parallel you could use those pedals in it. But to be safe I wouldn't use them in an effects loop. Just run the guitar into them and plug the pedals in the amp.
