Is there any other trick to playing Suspended chords besides practicing? I couldn't even begin playing some of the Van Halens chords in the songs, the finger placement seems physically impossible and if that's not hard enough, you have to switch between chords pretty fast.

Suspended chords aren't hard, per ce, but they can be difficult to shape depending on where on the neck you do so.

Here are two easy suspended chords found in the open major positions:

Dsus = [ x x 0 2 3 3 ]
Asus = [ x 0 2 2 3 0 ]

Opposite from the easiest, here are the same two chords, but found in a different place on the neck:

Dsus = [ 10 10 12 12 10 10 ]
Asus = [ x 0 7 9 10 10 ]

It is funny how it is difficult to make your fingers deviate from the shapes of open majors you are used to. I started messing around with oddly-shaped chords a while back and now I am good with them. At first, however, it was horrible teaching my fingers those shapes, but it doesn't take as long as you may think.
