i havent really found mine yet...im currently using D'Addario bronze .12-.54 (85/15)
i made the mistake of buying multiple sets early on...to save money right?...before really thinking about maybe they wouldnt be the string for me....but im about to use them all up and soon im gonna try some of their new coated exp's....i dont think ill change my string guage tho...ive tried elixers lights and didnt really care for them but the exps are made a bit different...so....we'll see...its still all very experimental for me even after 2 1/2 years....but i guess thats ok cuz a year or two ago i wouldnt have even known enough to decide if i liked my strings alot or not...but i guess its just going on feeling in the end anyways...

Hhhmmm I don't know enough to answer that but maybe someone can give me some info. What is the deal iwth string guages and what are the reasons for using each?

i think i answered this somewhere else but what the hey... the string 'gauge' is basically the thinkness of the set. thicker strings have a higher gauge. gauges are measured in 1000ths of an inch i think (nice figure for conveinience) and sets are marked according to the gauge of the top string, so a set of 9's has a 0.009 inch top string. The gauge affects the sound of the string and how it plays.
thin- 9's or 10's on an acoustic: these will be a lot easier on you fingers and also easier to play- gaster. disadvantages are that they sound a bit too light on an acoustic in some peoples opinion.
medium - 11's these are a good balance between a nice sound and ease of playing, probably the most popular choice.
thick- 12's + : these have a fuller sound and lots more volume, but are harder to play with and harder on your hands. Anything above twelves are likely to slice you hand to pieces.
Hope that helped.
Any chance you could win some for me??
I've always wanted to try them but they never have them in my music shop

i like martins pretty good, mostly because its the only brand that doesnt suck balls without buying them on the internet. If your gonna buy any strings buy pure bronze, none of that other junk.

My all time favorite strings are Elixirs. But when I need a some cheaper strings that are still nice, I go for some D'Addario's or Martin's.
I used Elixers and Martin coated strings and loved 'em both but at $15 a pop was very expensive.
Then I tried Ernie Ball acoustics and they were real cheap - like $6, although the tone wasn't very good IMHO and the strings tended to break easily (same string! grumble).
Now I am on Dean Markley Blue Steel acoustics. They are relatively cheap (like $6 or $7 bucks), they feel really good and the tone is awesome - almost if not as good as Elixers - like night and day compared to the EBs. As a bonus the string life on the Blue Steels seems to be about as long as Elixers. I love them.
The only difference I can tell between my Blue Steels and Elixers is that I have a little more string noise because they aren't coated - but it's not really a big deal.
These are only 3 I've tried so hope that helps.

I've been using "DR" lites and med. for the last 5 years and have had good luck with them. They last a long time and have a nice ring.
Three sets for $21.00
