He y'all. My pinkie aint as bad as others ive seen but at times it can be eratic and fly about the place! Anyone got any excercises to strengthen the pinky?

Also i wanna be more efficient when doing scales and runs. Currently my fingers are spidering too much, ie they are spending too long in the air when moving from one note to the next. Less time in air means more speed. Any cool exercises anyone?

Only thing I can recommend to you is performing all your scales and excercises r..e..a...l...l...y.. slowly watching your fingers so they dont spider and speed up after months and months of hard work, like most things (ARGH I HATE HAVING TO START SLOW!!!)

mayhem has it right, lots of slow playing = fast fast fast playing. Also, make sure your notes are CLEAN, and you don't have any string noise (ie: strings ringing when yuor playing other ones). and one last thing, do it WITHOUT distortion at first to make sure your synchronization between yuor left and right hands is not off, but you must also try with distortion to make sure your muting technique is good.

ive never practiced my pinkey but i use it and its better then anyother persons ive seen, i can get it to the fret i want it. Maybe it has something to do with when i dislocated it, or i was born special.

hehe, sorry, but I don't think so, it depends more on how much you've used the pinky in your former or regular life...like I don't have any probs with my pinky, because I normally use it to open bottles, I don't know why, it feels just natural and I have more power using the pinky than using thumb and index...really I have prblems with my thumb playing, because I never (ok, but very seldom) use it in regular life

Lol. Ive never thought of it like that. I only ever use my pinky for picking up keys when im in a rush. Thats all! I dont have any major problems with it.

An exercise I learned from Vinnie Moore a LONG time ago works good for finger dexterity. Just start at the first fret on the low E string and go up a half step at a time using all 4 fingers(chromatic). 1234, 1234, 1234 all the way up to the high E, then move up a half step and go back down...do this all the way up the neck, back and forth. Do this a few minutes a day and you'll notice a big difference in speed and accuracy with all your fingers.

He did a clinic at a store i worked at about 12 or 13 years ago. The funniest thing was trying to get him to admit he did an album with Vicious Rumors...he denied it all day.
