I'm a newby at guitar playing. So much so that I'm still practicing the strings, one at a time. Is there a website that gives first string notes music for practice? I can do one string at a time, but when it comes to multi-string, I'm all tied up:(

aahh, well, it may sound hard, but all the beginner-songs I know play more than one string (they only reduce the fingers fretting to one or three at the least) - and you should get familiar with that too...
...try it, for example do a simple triad based one, like this (listen to the postillion):
c,e,g, - c',g,e,(repeat both triads for three times) g,g,g, c, g,g,g e
the c is the third-fret-a-string one
the e is the second-fret-d-string one
g is open
the c' is the first-fret-b-string one
try it whit the thumb on the a-string, going up (c(thumb), e(index), g(middle)) and on the d-string, going down (c'(middle), g(index), e(thumb)) and so on...for the three g's in a row try and alternate index and middle (g(index), g(middle), g(index), so to use the middle for the ending c' (thumb for the ending e) again)
good luck
I'm pretty sure E-Media do a guitar tutor (CD ROM) it's called 'guitar method 1.' He starts off at the VERY basics and does include playing some songs with one string.
Maybe do an online search for it and check it out.

Any song can be played on the first string! All the notes exist on any of the six strings. You can't play a chord because limiting yourself to one string means you can only play one note at a time.
Just find a piece of music and go at it.
However, it generally is alot easier and better sounding to use all six.
Peace!
