I have my guitar tuned to C-F-A-D-G-C and I thought it was two steps down. But when I play a powerchord, the 6th and 5th strings crash sort of and it's pissing me off because I tuned it higher to D-G-C-F-A-D but they still crashed . I have also tried tuning it with two different tuners. One doesn't work right and the other is the one I use. Help me please.

What do you mean with "crash, sort of"? It could be that the guitar's action's too low, and the strings touch the fret bars while ringing. This develops a buzz. Try rising the action.

The tuning that you have listed is not everything down 2 whole steps. Even when you get your guitar in tune with the notes below, you will still have tuning problems unless you put much heavier string on your guitar.

Tunings are written from 6th to 1st

Down 2 whole steps = C F Bb Eb G C

More common in current rock is Drop D down a whole step.

Drop D down 2 whole step = C G C F A D
*this is sometimes referred to as Drop C

Thanks guys for your responses. From what you have told me, I was very close to dropped C.

Thanks,

What is dropped-A? I've heard people say Mike DeWolf from TapRoot tunes his guitar dropped-A.

That is for 7 string guitars where you tune the 7th string B down to an A. Or for a Baritone guitar......but the same idea. It is basically the same tuning configuration as Drop D, just a hell of a lot lower.

I have tried to tune my guitar lower than dropped-C, but I can't because me pedal or pick-ups. I found out I have Powersound pick-ups and I have a DOD GS30 multi-effects pedal. Is there something that i can do about that or is it as low as it will go?
