Is the S/D hot rail pickup desined for the neck or bridge position
or can you put it where you like?
is it feasable to have say a combo of Hot rail /Hot rail /cool rail or would it be overkill

I am tempted to say there's no *FIXED* place for any pickup , Put it anywhere, But it makes sense to place a hotter p/u where the strings oscilliation ampliture is the max ie the neck. Thats what is considered standard. The combo you have is cool.

Actually, you want the hotter pickup at the bridge. The more string vibration there is means the more 'volume' you get from the strings. That would be the neck. The hotter pickup at the neck would create a tonal and volume imbalance between your pickup positions.
I would say that the hot rails is best suited for the bridge. But it will work anywhere. I would say do cool rail, cool rail, hot rail (going from neck to middle to bridge positions). I have a friend that has that setup and it is f***ing incredible! The tone is amazing and the output is like a humbucker so you can get some crunch out of them!
