i know i suck but i need help

ok. ya know the common use of playing the same note in two different octaves (check a papa roach tab and you'll know what i mean). It looks like this in tab.

Now the method I'm using which isn't sounding to clean is ring finger on eleven pointer finger on nine and the E and D strings muted with my middle finger. Now my method sounds crappy so I'd like to know other people's opinions. Thanx.

Ok.. to play octaves i use the foll. strategy.
1) Either Use the pleck to pick the upper string and my middle finger to pluck the lower. I dont have much control over this :(

2) Use my thumb and the adjacent finger to pluck the strings. I find this method very easy but it sorta slows you down. I guess i have to put more practice into method 1 as THAT is probably the right way.

Oh sorry...forgot to add...Muting is ok if you can do it properly, but i try and stay away from it. Try muting strings along with playing at loud volumes. It suks. Peple telling you to use muting are probably playing classicals.
