sometimes when i see some guitarists do some solos, they use both hands on the neck, doing something weird.
what are they doing? is it a really technique, or just being a show off?

Yeh tapping, using your right hand to tap/hit notes on the fretboard to produce that note hit, its kinda like a massive pull of, to long for your fingers to stretch.

download some metallica kirk hammet seems to do it alot, on efor example is a good song with tapping in.

and van halen - eruption is most famous for tapping.

it's probably tapping, a surprisingly easy technique to master but so few guitarists use it.

Some people mean playing with all hammerons and pulloffs by "tapping" and call the thing you mean here "two handed tapping", whereas others refer to "two handed tapping" as just "tapping".

Confusing, but the point I want to make is that in most cases people say tapping and mean two handed tapping....

Aw well, that doesn't make too much sense, just forget it ;-)
