ive been wondering this for a while. when i play sometimes when i get into a solo or something around my fingernail will start to hit the string when i pluck it. i didnt know if this is a bad habit i should fix. also when i play my pick is pointed kind ok pointed more up towards my head than at my stomach. i didnt know if that was bad or not either.

well if it feels comfortable to you, and your able to do what you wanna do with your picking techinque, i wouldn't change anything.
i kinda need more info about the problem to help you out.

What is a pick with "letters", and how can it help?

he just means a pick with some texture on it....sometimes companies print their names with letters raised or a design and the texture helps keep the pick from slipping so much....kinda like grip tape on a skateboard...also an idea someone brought up here before....grip tape your pick...

The cyberfret mainsite as a lesson on the best ways to hold a pick. got pictures and everything you shouldprobably check that out. i think its under teh first fret section.
Picks with letters are also supposed to absorb your sweat as well.
I change my picking angle when I'm playing, normally when Im playing its 90 deg. When I'm going for a pinch harmonic its usually more angled.

If your finger nails are hitting the string it probably means your holding the pick too near the point but if it works for you then I'd stick with it. My guitar teacher always tells me to keep my thumb straight when I'm picking which I'm having trouble getting used to. Anyone else ever have problems with that?
