View Full Version : Beginner Songs
I was wondering if any one of you could suggest some good songs for a beginner, especially one who is interested in rock, metal, and a bit of blues.
Nobody that i have asked seems to give me a straight answer. It is usually along the lines of well... I don't know, I started with this song, but i think this one is easier... I just want to know some fairly easy songs that i can practice!!!
oh well, if anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

Any song by Bush or greenday.
I'll add a bit to the list
Any song by Blink 182 is fairly easy
Sweet dreams by Marilyn Manson
A few songs by the red hot chili peppers
Those are the only easy song I have been playing at the moment, maybe i'll add more later.

Not sure if you classify these as rock, I do hehe.. so I offer:
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
Crosby, Stills and Nash - Wasted on the Way
Guns 'n Roses - Patience
Poison - Every Rose has its Thorn
Tesla - Signs (not originally done by them, caveat)
Hope that helps =)

any song that you like I feel that if you try to play a song you WANT to play you will learn it
I mean Layla by Eric Clapton I dont consider to be an easy song but I wanted to play it coz I love the song and after some practice I could
I think if you have an interest in a song it will give you a goal to aim for
So practice practice and practice

If you are interested in books of songs, I suggest looking here: www.halleonard.com . Go to their search engine and type in "easy guitar" it will bring up a listing of 223 different books of songs. I have the "America" and "Beatles" collections. I really enjoy these. They are good arrangements on an easy to play level. This site will also give you lists of songs that are included in each book. Even if you don't purchase a collection, this may give you ideas of some easier to play titles. You may be able to find some of these collections at your local library to look at, or they can be purchased through the publisher or through SheetMusicPlus.com. There is a link to them on the front page of CyberFret.

A very easy song to play that's a great intro to power chords is "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath.

I first learned to play Enter Sandman by Metallica. I haven't got the solo done yet, as it doesn't sound right without a wah pedal, and I'm kinda broke right now. I kinda learned how to play by taking Beginning guitar in school, i wish I woulda payed attention rather than just playing metallica riffs all day :p....
Also, I don't know if anyone else finds it easy, but most of Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin was pretty easy to get down.

try tom petty's free fallin. i just found it yesterday and it is pretty much three chords with only changing one finger's position, but good question because i am in the same boat about easy songs.
