I'm a beginner.

I bought a new electric guitar but now I'm wondering if I've got the right gauge strings on it.I have .10 gauge but some people are telling me that I should go with .08 or .09 gauge.

Is it easier to play with thinner strings?I like the thicker sound with the .10 gauge.

Any opinions?

There is no 'best' gauge of strings. It's all in the tuning, style, and feel you like. .10's are fine for just about anything. Good all 'round string.

I found that when i was just starting, that with a thinner gauge it's easier to play, and easier on your fingers.

if you like them keep them!

Any opinions? OK! My experience is this. The lighter the string, the thinner/tinny tone.

Try this trick also: String your guitar with 13 to 56 and tune your guitar a half-step or whole-step lower. Way cool FAT tone...

Stevie would use 13's and tune a half-step lower. Hendrix tuned a half-step lower...

I have a Telecaster, and I just got some 350 Super Bullets. Are they any different in the way they are strung?

it just matters what you like...thin gauges are easier to bend, but have a smaller tone, while thicks are a little harder to bend, but have a nice fat tone. mediums are right in between. if you ever have two guitars, id have one with meds, tuned normaly, and one with thicks, tuned a half step down. thats what my uncle does, and both sound awesome. i recomend thicks or mediums. thins are much too boring in my opinion, but thats just me :D good luck with your playing

Better yet, learn on a six string Bass, you'll never regret it. ;)

What kind of music do you like, as it's possible to learn to use all of them as well as any of them.(If that makes sense.)

I switched from 9s to 10s cuz i bend alot and i wanted to strengthen my fingers, and then switch back to 9s or something after my fingers got stronger. but then i found that yeah, my fingers got stronger, and i could bend the 10s fine, and i could bend 2 whole steps up when i needed to and that's about all i'll need to do so i kept them cuz i like the tone and the solidity i feel with them. and hey i figure this way if i was playing 9s and then i played someone else's who used 10s i might feel limited. but i don't know anyone around here who use 11s.

I think that higrob has either given up or will have established a preferred string gauge by now.
