Does anyone actually have a gibson acoustic? I mean all the models are too damn expensive! Are they worth it? How about epiphone acoustics? Any good? I would like to try a epiphone ej-200.

I have one- a 1968 Dove. Played in a rock band then and played on a ES 335. The neck was so similar that I bought it to practice on. I've not played for a long time, but recently got interested because my son is singing and writing in an band. I was looking for a new learning guitar. There's a lot of good cheaper guitars out there, but there's definitely a difference in more expensive brands of guitars, I'm not sure a new player would notice.
One other thing, had the pickguard bubble up for some chemical reason. Thirty years later the new Gibson people fixed it and did a complete checkup for free. That's service I didn't even think about when I was 19.

My uncle has a 12 string Gibson, probably from the '50s or so. I have never played it though. I have only started playing the guitar in the past 8 months, so when I go back to see my family during the holidays I am going to check it out. He also has an epiphone, got it for something like $7 (Canadian!) at a garage sale somewhere. Someone really did not know what they were doing. Going to check both of these out in about a weeks time. I'll let you know how they play.

i have a old gibson acoustic in my home (it aint mine :()
thing is...everyone is tellin you about *old* gibsons...not new ones!
this is a company that has gone thru some big changes in the last 40 yrs or so and what was true of them in the late 50's aint necessarily true anymore!
alot of people think they are just riding on their reputation...but not serving up the quality they were known for in the olden days....
so watch out!
ive heard alot of people say you gotta buy a really expensive model to get back to that level of quality...and you can get a guitar thats just as good for a decent price from a differnt company!
there are lotsa copies of gibsons out there so if you are looking for something in particular you can prolly find a copy by another manufacturer and be just as happy with it....
just tellin ya what im hearing....
