Hi all:

I'm cramped from all the scales practice and treating myself to a few runs through Sting's "When We Dance". Its melodic and lyrical. Its available with a TabCrawler search. I am though unhappy with some of the offered chords and have picked some of my own choices. I write to inquire about one in particular and let's call it: 022300, okay?

Now with Super Guitar Chord Finder (i.e., a great program from Download.com that I registered and LOVE), I see that 022400 is an approach to the E5. This E5 sounds okay in the song. I do though prefer 022300. Unfortunately, Super Guitar Chord Finder leaves 022300 unnamed.

We're looking here at E-B-E-Bb-B-E. I'd wager I'm faced here with either confusion about nomenclature or a bug in this cool program. I mean, I'm looking at this E5 filled with Bs and Es and I get that. I'm asking myself, why can't I find a name for this bugger that simply drops the third string B to a Bb?

Happy for the upcoming help,

David

Cool sounding chord. I don't know the song, so I can't tell you if it is correct or not.....but I will attempt to explain it.

Keep in mind that not all chords are cut and dry. Sometimes they are a little vague. In this case I would probably call the Bb an A# instead. Then you have E A# and B. I would call A# a #11. This is a chord tension. Hard to explain in a couple of sentences, but just think of is as a color tone that is added to a basic chord.

So you could call this E5(#11) or E(#11)no 3rd. This is just not one of those chords that you would find in a chord book, because it does not fit into a nice neat category. With something like this, a chord symbol would not be enough to convey the correct chord to play. So you would have to have a chord chart, or have the chord written in the tablature.

Hello Shawn:

That helps, thanks. I will mull over your reply. Super Guitar Chord Finder lists E5 as 022xxx. 022400 looks though like a match with doubled notes. I'm learning this stuff.

I have attached (i.e., for illustration and study purposes) my work so far on Sting's When We Dance. The E5(+11) replaces the Esus2. These suspended seconds and fourths, sheesh, that's another pickle barrel that I dip into with trepidation.

Peace,

David

P.S. Woops, the message board server choked on the .pdf file. Oh well....
