happy boxing eve day to all! anyways, im a guitar player by trade, but since ive been having difficulty finding a bassist, i was thinking of writing bass parts to go along with my guitar riffs. but i dont want to be like these dang punk bassists that play the same note as the guitarist. but how would i go about writing something that isnt too easy, and doesnt make the song sound like crap?
i hope i explained this well enough, my family got me up way too early this morning and im really tired

I think I can help a little bit. Like, say you are strumming some chords during the chorus like Am, F, G or something. Being since the bass has the same scales as guitar, you can improvise on the bass from the A minor scale. So it would spice up the music rather than just playing the A note, F note, and G note. I hope that helps.

dude there are soo many ways ya can make some great bass rifts.... it dont know how to tell em all in this little space........ i guess it all depends on what type of music your playing. i play heavy metal so i guess if you were to right a metal riff and you were on the E scale you could be playing the E note (or any simular 1 in the scale) and every other note hit a differnt note but staying in the scale or related notes.
hmm i hope that came out right
like somthing like this i guess
E, E, B, E, E, F, E, E, B, E, D, E, F
i think thats right damn now i got to go get my bass and see if thats right. ugh.. ill be back with a post to let ya know if thats right or not. if some1 see's that its wrong just let me know and put up an example the explains it better.
sorry for all the crazyness that i just typed

Check out any Beatles album - Paul is playing great bass parts away from the guitars - not insame - very tastful - also the bass parts on any elliot smith album really good too.....not too busy, but different from what the guitar plays....I think Sam Coons from Quasi plays bass on the Smith albums?
