What?
What songs? You just got some bands' names here. You wanted to know in which key the bands are?????????????????? heh :D

I used band names instead of songs because most of your tab books
are labeled by muscians (bands)not songs.
Unless your reference is from like guitar player magazine etc....
I think i did say songs from these bands or styles didn't I
Since i can play stuff from metallica, satch etc...
just need to know like
all of surfing w/ the alien album
metallica master of puppets album
etc........

I don't understand your question at all....you want people to list out all the songs by these artists and tell you what key they're in?? I won't be one of the people doing this

NEVERMIND!!!
nobody understands:mad:
Im not asking for the world here!
I dont get it No one knows what the heck a key is?
I thought this was a guitar site.
Just one song is fine but i figure most of you had the tab books
w/the whole album tabbed out.
Guess I wont share anymore of my help either.
most Ozzy, Metallica and general gloomy metal is in E minor, as for Satch, he uses the pitch axis system so his songs go from key to key faster than the fingers of Jerry Lee Lewis.

hmmm...well...i dont think theres any reason to get bent outta shape (aside from maybe a few rude comments)
but in peoples defense....i dont think many people here invest in a lot of tab books...they are expensive and alot of our users are pretty young....heck half of them are looking for new ways to recycle strings!
im sure alot of people know what keys are cuz ive seen alot of conversations here about theory...mostly carried by the same 4 or 5 people usually...
but with the availability and ease of tab...alot of people dont pay much attention to theory at all!
otherwise there arent that many people here who have so much experience that they play as many songs as youve requested....no you didnt ask the world....but i dont think there are many people here who can really answer your question either...i know i cant...
dont be mad at us cuz we arent experienced enough to know "everything" (if there is such a thing)...be glad people are honestly saying they dont know...instead of loading you up with a bunch of bad info...
you admitted yourself you were being lazy and didnt feel like tabbing it out or even going to the store to look....it IS alot of work now isnt it?

yeah... im not trying to flame you or anything, but if arent motivated enough to do your own research, i think people wouldnt do it for you, and im with swampdonkey for sure.
the original question didnt make sence so theres no need with getting stroppy about it of people dont understand it. people *do* know what keys are here, and this is a guitar site.
what this is *not* is a slave service... we're not gonna go and find what key every song by metallica or ozzy. maybe it'll be a good idea to try and figure some of the stuff out? it will help to train your ear and such like.
i know you've probably taken offence, but im just saying my oppinions on this situation.
Ben.

I guess I should have left the words ALL and ALBUM
out of my 2nd post.
Guess i should have asked
Does anyone already know what any of satchs or metallicas songs
by name what key its in?
The reason is, I used to have the tab book for surfin w/ the alien
but lost it.
If you look at the staff at the beginning it will have a number of sharps or flats or none in the key signature per song.
Only 1 thing to look at and no figuring out involved.
Sorry if I was unclear in my post.
All I know is if someone post for help on this website and I think I
can help. Then I will.Guitar music is my life and love to share help and ideas w/ anyone.

Satch, take a chill pill. No one was intentionally being rude, you werent clear at all. Im sure most people on this board DO know what a key is and im sure most would be glad to help you if you would state it clearly, or even clarify your post with out getting obnoxious. You might get better results naming a few specific songs. Im not going to go down the list of classic rock and instrumental rock songs i know saying what key their in. That would take too long and theres no reason you cant figure it out yourself. Plenty of tabs on the internet.

Hey man, sorry if I set you off or anything, but I was just responding to the way I interpreted your post. This IS the internet, I can't read your mind, only what you type. When I saw your post, my interpretation was "I'm lazy so can someone post all the songs by the following bands and styles and what key they're in." That would be asking for the world, hence why I said I wouldn't be taking part. Maybe I misunderstood and made a mistake...it happened once before ;)
Oh, just to clarify, I DO know what a key is. If you don't have the sheet music just listen to the song and use your ear to figure it out. And if you have trouble figure out the key of a certain song, post it here and I'm sure myself or someone else will be glad to help you out.

ok, what he was asking was for us to name any song(s) by any of those artists he mentioned, and then along with the song, say which key it was in.
I'll try and get some satch songs together.

ok, i have know idea what the meaning is behind what i'm gonna write, but here it goes.
Satriani:
Flying in a blue dream:
mess around with C lydian (C D E F# G A B) and G Dorian (G Bb C D E F)
Friends:
mess around with D pentatonic minor (D E F# A B)
Mystical potatoe head groove thing:
mess around with E harmonic minor (E F# G A B C D#)
Summer Song:
main wah wah melody theme is diatonic to A Mixolydian (A B C# D E F# G)
at 1:12 into the song it turns to A blues (A C D E G) and then later to A minor (A B C D E F G)
Crush of love:
Entirely A pentatonic minor (A C D E G) except for the b5 at teh end of the second bar.
Surfing with the alien:
mess around with F# harmonic minor (F# G# A B C# D E#) and F# minor (F# G# A B C# D E)
its not super exact, sorry, but it will give you an idea of what to look for i hope.
peace :)

yo, ya, i've acutally lost the desire to play, so i'm gonna take up keyboards instead (i've been playing for two days, and think it rocks). guitar got sooooo boring.
and no, unfortunately i never got a band together. thats actually one of the reasons i lost the desire to play.
hopefully i can be the next jordan rudess :) (Dream Theater keyboard player. This guy is INSANE!!!)

You could try to play both guitar & keyboards.Macalpine is a wiz at that.I do know what you mean about frustration.I am my own worst critic. There is only so much you can do with a few chords and phrases.
If you cant link that stuff together with drums ,bass etc....
It can make you feel very limited as a player.I think one of the neatest things in music is when you have 2 maybe 3 independent melodies all working together.Such as the ending to hordes of locust
by satriani.Yes if your main influence is dream theatre then all other music sounds weak, composition wise.Music theory is very humbling
because in the end it all boils down to the rythm section. Its been said that its not the scale but the player that makes music.
But somehow you have to tie it in and deceive the listner into saying
WOW what scale is that in.
Good luck.

I think all the guys from Dream Theater are insane!! :)
Im also starting feel that guitar is little boring. Well that's probably because im so lousy player! But Im starting to feel that every other instrument would be better. This is not the first time this is happening. Maybe it'll go over. :) I just don't find that groove from the guitar... :(

Satch Boogie
A Minor pent(ish)

C Lydian

Learning keys gives you a different angle on music theory and helps you understand it. If you want to really understand music theory, the two instrument that are best to learn are keyboard and guitar.
