It's the first decent lick I've ever come up with!! It's just some 7th chord sweep arepeggios...I have to finish it, but I have to get my guitar first!! ...stupid acoustic...I need my high notes!!! :(

I like it, I changed the instrument to a Violin and it sounded great, very Classical.
I'm off to learn it (hope you don't mind) :)

I had the same problem when I first got powertab as well. You'll need to select another MIDI device.
Go to 'MIDI' in the top menu, then 'setup' then choose a diferent devce from the list.
I think that should work.

Now I have a question...the arpeggios of that lick are
Emin7 - Amin - D7 - Cmaj7 - Ddim - Emin7 - D7
If I'm using power chords on the backing guitar, what should I use over that dimished arpeggio? Everything I put there sounds way too disonant :confused:

I'll be honest with you, I changed the arpeggio in the 3rd bar to a Dm.
So the first arpeggio in bar 3 goes:
e¦--------------------12---10---8---etc...
B¦-12-p-10-----------------------------------
G¦---------10-----10-----------------------
D¦------------12----------------------------
A¦-------------------------------------------
E¦-------------------------------------------
So to your question, you could use a D5 or Dm. I don't know what would go
with the diminished arp' though.

I tried using a Dm arpeggio there too. But, I prefer Ddim though :)
it's just a matter of tastes :)

That sounds cool, what i dont get is how you come up with things like that!
I only just started learning proper theory in the last month after 3 years of playing!
Are you using scales, and then relative scales, etc?
thanks.

I just started learning theory too (after almost two years of playing), and I really don't know how I came up with that. It even has clashing tones and stuff!
Well here's the story
I was bored to death...So I started messing around with the G major scale (E minor relative). Then, I came up with the first arpeggio (I just started with sweep picking and I wanted to created my own exercises). Then I harmonized the Scale in 7ths. Went to wholenote.com looked for some major minor and dominant 7th arpeggios and started using them!
And about that Ddim arpeggio...I don't know, Dm didn't sound JUST right :D

I really don't know if that's how it's called in english
But it's something like this
G major scale:
G A B C D E F# G - Roots
B C D E F# G A B - Thirds
D E F# G A B C D - Fifths
F# G A B C D E F# - Sevenths
Doing this you get the following chords:
Gmaj7 - G B D F#
Amin7 - A C E G
Bmin7 - B D F# A
Cmaj7 - C E G B
D7 - D F# A C
Emin7 - E G B D
F#min7(5b) - F# A C E
That's where I got the arpeggio shapes from :p
Hope I cleared that out

try maybe a dim chord or a 7b9 or 7#9

Since I'm only using Power chords for the backtrack I decided to use a D5- chord with that dimished arpeggio
D5-
E||------||
B||------||
G||--7---||
D||--6---||
A||--5---||
E||------||
