Tab help with Dead By Converge

Right, I doubt any of you will have heard this song but you should if you like anything aggresive or melodic (for the first 30 secs).

Anyway, there are a lot of bits that i dont understand. Theres some lead bit in the verse which i cant seem to find in the tab and theres also this.

What does it mean by (octave on the 3rd and 5th strings). I have no idea what thats all about.

converge is a great hardcore band that a friend of mine turned me on to. i just bought their jane doe cd yesterday.

but as for the tab, im stumped.

all i know is that the * = 10th fret and the @ = 12th fret as indicated at the legend at top.
