would you rather buy a very nice new car or a very nice new guitar, and would you rather buy stuff for ur car or stuff for ur guitar?
Hehehe. Get the car. Then spend the rest on stuff for your guitar.
The money im spending on driving lessons + car I could be buying an amazing guitar, and an amazing amp.

how bout a used car and a new guitar?
suppaenitetere
12-28-2002, 09:51 PM
I would rather have the cost of the car to spend on guitar things. Now if i had to take the guitar or the car with no cash involved id take the car, sell it and buy guitar things :)
But what if you have a gig, or a practise at a studio thats a long way away, would you take your equipment on public transport?
FleaBass
12-28-2002, 10:55 PM
i believe he said a NEW car or NEW guitar i would go with the NEW GUITAR cuase i can always use and OLD car to get to a gig wich would pay me some NEW cash to put in my OLD bank account to save for a NEW car.
haha how many people did i piss off typing like that. probally a few NEW members and a few OLD

haha nvm i didnt think boutthat
hehehe.
I'd do what JT suggested.
I don't think I'd ever leave my equipment in the hands of anyone other than me, so I personally would rather have the car :)
that's a tough one, both attract chicks, but a new car (as long as it's not the Skoda I have) would keep me dry going to uni in winter, you can also use it to carry friends, women, dead bodies, guitars, food and surfboards around the place. I'd take the car. I don't intend to ever switch guitar anyhoo.

i have a similar problem... i could either fix up my car so i could join a car club next spring, or i could squander it all on new guitar equipment.
needless to say, i choose my guitar, since i don't have any room in the back to fit a dead body now that i put my system in... now if only i could get it to work lol
Lol. I love the new line of Skoda adverts.

rofl mr B!!!!!!!
i'd probably have a brand new car, sell it, get a nice used car, and a sweet new guitar and amp :)
just simple logic if you ask me :)
(i know someone already said that, but its what i'd do anyway ;))
drunkenmosquito
12-30-2002, 07:51 AM
That's what I would do too. Just like Ben said...simple logic
@ Fizz, there's a big sticker in the rear window of my car that says "Actually it's a Skoda" or "It's a Skoda. Honest" or something. I've tried to reomove it with my fingers, a chisel, semtex, it just won't budge, so I've taken to walking.
LOL!!!!
Try and get a picture of it!
Its not in that horrible green colour is it?
the sticker is transparent, y'know a rear window sticker, the car is a fetching silver, it's a Fabia so it's actually quite good, the name is embarassing, that's all, but I got a screwdriver set from a Christmas cracker so I think I'll go outside (in the sunshine) and prize the badges off the front and back, and replace them with the shrunken skulls of those two driving examiners who failed me.
Done. *dusts hands contently*
when you say is it that green colour, are you referring to the colour that old people get their skodas in, a mixture of green, grey and brown which should really just be called "old"?
Deary me!
...That's about all I can say!

how about this:
new car with new guitar accidently left inside trunk by someone who previously was checking out the car (though a bit unreasonable ... it could happen).
hmmmmm....yes......
every Saturday night/Sunday morning I walk past the biggest music shop in town and hoke through the (empty) cardboard boxes outside hoping that they'll have just left a guitar in one of 'em. So I know the feeling.

You'd be amazed at what some stores will throw away. I wouldn't be suprised if you found a damaged (say cracked neck) guitar that could be repaired that way...
I wouldn't give good odds, but you never know.
I've heard stories of office supply stores throwing out "old model" new printers and such in the trash, for example. Usually they break them in some trivial way (sometimes not so trivial).
What happens is that if they have a discontinued item, they often can report to the manufacturer the unsold units, and the manufacturer will give them a credit back. Since shipping the stuff back to the manufacturer isn't worth the money, they just have the store destroy them.
Apparently "old" new books at Barnes & Noble get trashed this way too, usually with just the covers ripped off (to mark them as "destroyed"). Of course if they make it to the dumpster they will be covered in coffee grounds (Starbucks)...
Person I knew read all this stuff on some "dumpster diving" message board. Personally I'm too lazy to try that hard to get free stuff.
I once found a bit of wood....

That's a bit of a silly question (the original one), as the cheapest new car costs probably four to six times a really expensive new guitar.

Yes but I'm not into stealing cars :) But if I were..

why would you steal the car, then sell it, then buy a used car... you should just buy the new guitar and steal the car.... no need to sell it...
but I would take the new car over the guitar... I like my equipment, and would rather have a car anyway... dude, Dodge Viper SRT/10... V10, 8.3 liters! yum!

Not quite sure yet.
It's gonna be one of these (the usual first car lot)
VW Polo
Renault Clio
Vauxhall Corsa (which I'm currently learning in)
Citroen Saxo
Fiat Punto
And generally whatever I see out there thats a great bargain. I want to buy a super amazing sound system to rival those.....junglists in my area.

Be careful! One time I was completely obeying traffic laws and a car like four cars up suddenly turned and the truck behind him/her wasn't paying attention. That person stopped fast, the car behind him stopped fast, and the next, and then I stopped too...but the chick behind me plowed into me and knocked me into the car infront of me. So it was a sandwich, you see...and the car infront of me? Was a wrecker! It totalled my car rite then and there, her car pushed my back tires onto her hood. Im all suspended in air..soo I just drove off! ( FWD) LOL and after the police did their stuff...the wrecker guy just pulled my car up onto his truck :) Adn the girl was a friend of mine. I got a Grand Prix, and her car was totalled too and she got a Grand Prix as well. Ok why do you care about the latter of this post...? Summary: I was in a wreck once.

the Ford Pinto and Fiat Punto sound vaguely similar. Only car I was ever in in the US was something called a Thunderbird. It was a damn good car, if only for the name.

Well Ive been in your boat and let me say.
Cars are extremely expensive, they require constant cash input.
I would say spend it on nice gear that you will plan on not selling.
new strings is about all the maintenance you wil need on the gear.
I spent 6k and 18 mos rebuilding my mustang.
It ran for 2wks and blew the tranny because it had too much horsepower.
Im still feeling the burn on that one.
Pick your hobby and know the pros and cons.
There are so many pros for the good gear.
If you have a car that runs and is reliable thats a good thing.
Good luck

HTF did ya manage to put too much HP in a mustang???
-
satch
03-15-2003, 06:59 PM
Well for a few reasons that i should have researched then that i do know now.
For starters I chose the wrong "mustang" to build up.
An 84 5.0 convertible carb model, heavy car, weak tranny, weak rearend
horrible factory heads only 175hp from factory
Should have built up 91-93 5.0 coupe
lighter, stronger everything and fuel injection 225hp from factory.
But really there is no such thing as a race car part you can bolt on your car and forget about.Car Modified anything is high maintenance.
I still love mustangs and currently own a very cherry 92vert
custom paint /wheels etc... but choose to buy the 4 cyl for many reasons that should be obvious.Until i become a better mechanic or
get a better paying job,I think i will stick to the econo stangs for now.I could of had the dream rig of any musician for the bucks ive waisted on building fast mustangs.I stick to the cruizers for now.
But someday ill own the 500horse shelby ive always wanted

Well wasnt so much directions as it was trusting the wrong people
telling me what i should do to my car.
Are you a mechanic? Its not easy to just slap parts on a car.I know a hell of a lot about cars and just chose the wrong one to build.I built the hipo 302 in my garage by myself. The engine turned out perfect but I trusted that the stock tranny could hold up to the new engines power and well i was wrong.
We all learn from our mistakes.

i have a friend thats 2 years older than me and she is completely accident prone. driving home from getting her PERMIT she ran the car into someones house. then about 2 months later she rear ended a buncha cars at a stop light cuz she 'didnt see them'. then, when she got her new car, on the first day she had it she ran it into a tree. this all happened within about 6 months. now i think its pretty safe to say that she wont be able to get cheap insurance for a good 50 years.
jaytee
03-15-2003, 09:35 PM
#1 i would not own a pinto...there is a reason they are no longer made...its called FIRE!
#2 i HAD a thunderbird...very solid car....handles like sh*t in bad weather tho....
#3 we rebuilt an engine once (what a fun thing to do with your girlfriend guys! my husband and i have done about 4)...anyways...the engine was too strong as well...not only did we have the problem with matching up compatible parts...but we had the head shaved too many times and the compression ratio was too high which basically blows things apart....so it happens....and a grand or two later you are back to starting from scratch....
Heheheh.
Well, people round my area drive punto's, saxo's and corsa's, blarin out garage n trip hop or whatever, in a polo I think I'd be pretty safe, and apon having done some research, I found you get more for your money in the long run, as their a lot more reliable, and better put together than the other cars.

To non car buffs 225 seams small potatoes but have you driven
a stock 90-93 mustang 5.0 w/5spd?HP numbers are just 1 peice of the puzzle.Rear end gear ratios/Tranny ratio vs weight transfer/Tire size
all play into the equation.
Besides of maybe VW the 5.0 mustang has such an excellent aftermarket
That the 225 horsepower will quickly turn into 500-600hp easy.
Try that w/ a honda civic and make it streetable.
Its just such an excellent base to start with.
Yes 45hp per litre is low but its got such much more to tap into.
a 200hp si is probably close to its limit without socking 1000s into it.Anyways those numbers are for a 10 yr old mustang. The 03 mustang cobras produce 390hp out of 4.6 ltrs!Does that sound better
and that is probably a conservative number.

i hate driving!!!
i was just comin hope from my girl's house, she lives about an hour from me, and i made it to about 10 minutes to home and i got pulled over for doin 67 in a 55. and my gosh darned state puts 6 points on everyone until theyve had their license for a year, and ive had it for 10 months. so i might lose my license. hooray!
Slow driving makes me mental. If the car can't go faster, then fair enough, but when car's in front of you are one of the drivers that strictly obey the speed limit (its 30mph here in most places) then I go mad.
I think I'll write a letter to the government and whine. Road rage happens for a reason
On that note - what country other than Iraq do you guy's reckon will be attacked first? America or England?
@ Fizz, I think road rage is an excellent idea! I mean, we'd all drive so much more carefully if we thought that some guy was going to get out of his car and kick the crap out of us if we did something wrong!
I think Iran will be attacked first, cos it's easy for Bush to mistake it for Iraq on the map. No doubt the French will go "No, we have oil there as well!", but good ol' Dubya won't listen.

k mr/ b in hostory the whole reason the middle east is a mess is cause no1 every kills off the people that live there... look at the alexander the great... he marches in and makes a bunch of cities tries to teach the peopel stuff and they late go crazy and betray him.. tehn the crusades the english march in and kill a bunch of them then once again try to teach them stuff adn they get crapped on... now the us goes in adn bombs em.. adn teh we help countries liek afgaistan try to learn somthing and what happens well we get crapped on AGAIN... we need to clear the whoel area and make a parking lot and a mid eastern disney world that is what woudl be best.
-
Hahaha, here we go...
With all due respect to anybody this effects, this is just my opinion, blablabla.
America is faced with an awkward situation, on one hand, they have a genuine threat coming from North Korea, who they KNOW will attack them sooner or later, on the other hand, they have a gold mine *sorry, oil mine..* to get it they just have to bomb the hell out of iraq with what you might call, 'weapons of mass destruction'. Polls on the news show the majority of American Citizens don't back this war, because there is CLEARLY no threat from them, its like taking sweets from a child.
England, basically, we're damned if we do, and we're damned if we don't. Tony Blair is on his way out whatever the end results may be, he can afford to lose this one. Support has grown by 12% but that is still way off the 50% line.
A war with Iraq is wrong, and unjust. However, a war with a genuine threat, North Korea, is worth fighting, more countries would back that, they would have UN support. Sure, they would get no oil from it, but they would be prevailing in their "War against 'terror'.
Bush is too up himself to swallow his pride and admit that there are no weapons of M.D in Iraq, he's already sent troops to Iraq, and he can't bring them back, because he will look like a monkey. (s******s)
It's also funny how he's *****in out of talks with North Korea.
Think I'll stop now.
ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT NOTE
@ Mr B

ok fizz.. in my countries def.
Saddam has wepons of destruction ..maybe not nuclear or huge chemical but enough to hurt people thast teh reason we are on hsi back cause he never got rid of them from after deasert storm liek he was supposed to... now while inspectors are there and there is a no fly zone he is safe. he WONT do much.. its like a prisioner in prison while teh gaurds are around hes not too dangerous... but just because we have not found... or annouced we have found weapons of mass destruction doesnt mean he doesnt haev them
the U.S. and britain have soo many under cover special opps teams running around out there who is to say that they havnt found anything... there is soo much the gov't dosnt liek to tell people cause words gets around.
so... say we take all teh people out of iraq and leave him alone and ooops in 2 years he launches a few old soviet nukes at one of our countries... (which the U.S. and Britain might have trouble tracking do to their post new age radar guidence systems.) and they blow teh hell out of a counrty what is every1 gonan say... Ooo were srry we told your gusy to leave him alone?? we didnt think any1 would do somthign to kill that many people.. we take full responsiblity.. NO.. they'll make some other dumb excuse that we didnt do enough peace talks or some crap liek that and say it was our fault...
so befor that ever happens the United States and britian... 2 of the only countries in the world with brains decieded to stop him befor more inocent people die at teh hands of a nut case.
yes bush isnt a smart man.. but i rather have him in office the clinton.

Take that back!
Clinton was THE man!!!!!!!
'I did not have sexual relations with that woman *wink*'
@bass
Every single country has at least 5 high grade weapons that can be defined as a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Countries need to protect them selves from possible (well..) terrorists, such as Saddam, and his little minions..
I agree that Saddam needs to be replaced, but I don't think there is cause for war with Iraq. North Korea are the serious threats. They are the ones who at THIS MOMENT IN TIME, are threatening the world, with nuclear weapons. Why is there no war with them?

i hate clinton he's a draft dodger and ran to canada when 9-11 happened what kinda former president abanndonds the country he once lead because somthign bad happened... what a duesch bag.
as of not going to war YES it would be great for saddam to listne but he hasnt in 11 years so why would he now?? and he has a whole army behind him weather we liek it or not so its not liek we can walk into his house adn make him sign some papers... its more complicated then that so unfortunatly "war" is teh only way
now as for N. Korea.... the reason we arent over there first is cause we had dealings with saddam first... he never did what he was supposed to after desert storm as techniacally desert shield was never over... so befor we open another can of worms we must finish with what we have to first....
-
a great quote from Hans Blix from an interview in London:
Interviewer: "Can you categorically state that you know Iraq has illegal weapons of mass destruction outlawed by the UN?"
Hans Blix: "I can categorically state that I do not know that Iraq has illegal weapons of mass destruction, because we cannot find them. If you were to ask me to look for such weapons in this country, I would have no difficulty finding them"
How come Western countries can have all this stuff and Islamic countries cannot?
(answers on a postcard).
FleaBass
03-18-2003, 06:44 PM
cause WESTERN countries wount go crazy and bomb innocent people for no freaking reason.. if innocent people die there is 99.999999% of teh times a reason behind it.. saddam is just a nut who would kill people cause he dont liek the fact we live better then him.

"Oh, I'm an American! Don't hurt poor Iraq for doing nothing wrong, so that they can bomb us in a few months! It'll be fun!" When Iraq is sitting there under complete dictatorship. hehe Flea, I share your sentiments. I dont wanna kill a bunch of innocent people...but if that is what it takes to get what needs to be done, done..it will work out better anyhow. For Iraq - this means freedom.

see it wasnt the iraqis that bombed WTC on 9-11 tho, it was the saudis, and i still havent heard of any concrete evidence, or any evidence at all linking the iraqis to the bombers.
im assuming you're talking about 9-11 up there...
my only fear, if it is a quick and decisive victory, is that bush will be re-elected for another term. hes been in office too long already.
and if i get drafted, at least i could use athletic-induced asthma as an excuse to get out of it :)
