While tunign the guitar to drop d, i get the correct sound for some songs 1 fret lower than tabed, other songs work fine. Help!

Tabs are written by anyone who know how to do it.
I've seen tabs that doesn't even resemble the song.
I'd suggest to try another tab site someplace.

People write what they think they hear in Tab. It's not always right. If you can find music for the song in dropped D, you'll probably be happier with it.

BluesPulp is right.....so much Internet tab is just dead wrong.
Also, it may be that the song is in drop d, but everything is tuned a half step lower. So the notes from the 6th string to the 1st are Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.
Here is a lesson on Drop D. There are some MIDI tuning notes to help you tune.

On tab, I recommend Mxtabs.net because they rate it. If you find the highest rating tab wrong, mess around with what it says and find the right thing.
