is it possible to do powerchords on an acoustic guitar? i see lessons on how to do it and i also see that if you add distortion, powerchords sound much better. doesn't that mean only eletric guitars can do good powerchords???

I guess it matters what your opinion is of what good power chords are.
If its power chords with distortion, then obviously they won't be good.

well i suppose were talking about achoustic elecrics then...riight..
i love the sound of power chords on my old yamaha acoustic, try tuning down a couple steps strumming away, it sounds indredable with loose radly srings, especially with heavier guage srings
I think power chords on acoustic guitars sound quite nice, because theyre mellow, yet theyre agressive in the sense that theyre power chords. ( ) But its absolutely fine to do powerchords, and any kind of technique on an acoustic guitar, it might just not sound the way youre used to hearing them.

its a little harder to make power chords sound good on acoustic compared to distortion, but if you can pull it off right they sound really nice.

this is somewhat on topic, just something i've been wondering about but no one's given me a straight answer: what would happen if you use an acoustic/electric, but hookup a distortion pedal to it? ive wondered about this for a while, but no one around here seems to know.

Fizz is right. I play my acoustic and electric pretty much the same. I do two hand tapping, bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc. on both. Some techniques are more difficult on an acoustic and they sound different and they should, they are different types of guitars.
I have plugged my acoustic into my POD and played with differnt effects and such. That was pretty cool, but I like my acoustic best "unplugged". :)
Peace!

Yes power chords can be and are used in several acoustic guitar styles
just look at the blues. There would hardly be no rythm without power chords. You may just be confused about the term "power chord" and "distortion". they are different animals but one compliments the other very well with the electric guitar.:D
