View Full Version : just curious
right now, i know nothing about guitars. OK
What are the knobs or dials on the front of an electric guitar for?
I saw a tab say that distortion should be used, is this any sort of distortion or a specific kind?

the nobs on the front a guitar control a couple different things, and they vary on different guitars. I own a strat, and it has 3 nobs, one for volume, and the other two are for tone. Almost all guitars have a volume nob. The tone nobs control the tone of the first two pickups on my guitar, they vary on other guitars. The tone nobs control what the guitar sounds like. They switch between sort of mellow, bass sound to a brighter, treble sound. Some guitars have other nobs that control bass, mids and high frequencies to further control the sound, some rare ones have nobs that control distortion, and this weird danelectro guitar i saw had a single nob that changed the sound of the guitar to emulate sounds of other famous guitars. So, basically, the function of the nobs changes from guitar to guitar, but on most guitars, the nobs control volume and tone. Distortion is usually controlled by the amp or an effects pedal. Hope I helped you out.
thanks, i was curious
i might be getting an electric guitar soon, so i figured it would be god to know
