View Full Version : Frets look flattened?

I just bought a used guitar from a guy who said he played it very little and it doesnt look to be used. It's a Standard Squier fat strat, the body is PERFECT, there was even plastic wrap still around the tone knobs, it looks brand spanking new. The neck and everything else is shiny new too but the frets on this guitar look like they've been flattened a little, almost like fretwear but it's on almost every fret! It doesn't buzz any and it sounds perfect, I was just curious as to why the frets on a "new" guitar would look like this? (I'm comparing the frets to my ovation acoustic, they all look rounded on the top.)
Just curious to hear if this is standard on a squier or if maybe the guy had this guitar modified.
Thanks!:(

Im sorry to say this, but.....squier's suck. My mate bought a *new* one and the phone jack stopped responding after 3 months, the pickup switch doesnt work and the volume and tone nobs cracked
well anyway good luck. dunno about the frets.

I don't agree with that. Squiers don't suck based on one person's bad experience with them. I think the majority of reviews I've read on squier guitars has been positive. Obviously it's not a high end guitar but neither is it a peice of junk. Anyone have any information about the FRETS, I'd rather not hear from any more folks who think my guitar is junk, just keep that to yourself if you don't mind. =)
Thanks

It obviously was just a rather faulty one he bought, but for 100 pounds any guitar is decent.

what do you mean by the frets are flattened? is it the actual frets or the fretbars, and how are they flattened?

If it is all the frets and they are evenly flat along the whole fret, it is just how they make the frets. If the frets aren't evenly flattened then it is wear from playing. But that takes a while to actually see the fret flattening.
