View Full Version : VAN HALEN :: any fans???
Hyah mates!
Does the younger generation have a clue to the Van Halen Legacy?
I sure hope they return with Sammy on vocals and get back to real business!
These guys have influenced music in a way that people can't even believe! And Eddie has done more for the guitar than Jimi Hendrix did... I love Jimi too but Eddie is a few notches up the ladder!

yea i have heard lots of people like him, who enjoy shredding. you pretty much have to since he started that whole tapping and such
Tapping is the first thing people remember from Eddie... but that's only 1% of the importance he's had! For instance... he developed the Floyd Rose along with the inventor/patent holder... the very aspect of the Strat guitar... Floyd Rose with humbucker pickups, amp development and mods... his playing is totally awesome, etc...

i remember seeing eddie on mtv when i was a little kid (cuz i had older brothers who loved VH)...and what made such an impression on me was his huge grin he always had....like he just LOVED what he did and was having *so much FUN*.....he didnt look like he was in pain like half the players you see anymore making some fake face for the effect...
that grin of his is what i always see in my mind when i think of him or see his name anywhere....

Van Halen is my all time favortie group - With any of the singers, just as long they have Eddie, Micheal, and Alex, they're the best IMO.
To Eddie: Make an album and start touring guys!!!!!
Peace!

Van Halen was an awsome group actually i'm wearing a van halen t-shirt right now. I've always considered myself more of a Randy Rhoads kinda guy though.:)
Has anybody seen the video to 'Jump'?
Why on earth has the drummer got such a huge kit, with FOUR bass drums if he only uses one of the bass drums, the snare, hi hat and crash?!
My mate was laughing so hard during that video.
"Jump" is one of my all timne faves, I love the way Eddie just instantly teleports from his position on stage with the guitar to being at the keyboard playing a big solo with a grin on his face.

He also invented the "Drop D tuna!".
He also made the super stat, not the strat, that was Vaughn and Hendrix.

Hmmm, I know Floyd, we're not best buddies or anything and I haven't asked him about this directly...but I think you are a little off. I think Eddie may have tested early versions, but I certainly don't think he "developed" it in any sense of that word.
But, then again, I could be wrong... I'll ask Floyd next time I run into him.
I always thought Eddie's guitar had a one way tremolo arm (it just went down). You never heard him raise the pitch of a note with the whammy bar in any of his songs, it's all just divebombs.

im 14 and of the younger generation. no one that lives near me is any influenced by the older bands. i myself listen to a wide range in rock time with many bands in the 70's including van halen, ironmaiden, judas priest, black sabbath, def leppard, deep purple, and many more... all the people in my area are interested in some limp bizkit crap and blink-182.
... in fact... Eddie's guitars have Floyd Rose tremolos that only go down and not up. They set on the guitar in normal position... he has this like this in case he breaks a string he stays more or less in tune, otherwise the thing goes up and loses intonation.

Yeah, I think only his Steinberger has a floating trem. Actually his Steinberger will lock in higher pitches and thus change the tuning of the guitar. Pretty, cool.
Peace!

Eddie is great, he is a constant inspiration for me, and his songs are loads of fun to play.
