Hey UpRightMan.

A pick up for your acoustic is as important as the guitar it's self.
There are good cheap ones, and bad cheap ones. There are mics that fit inside and some pickup the sound from the saddle on the bridge.

Tone and depth is something you need to think about.
A pickup manufacture makes many kinds of pickups. They all will have a little differnt sound to them. You can throw the kind and guage of strings into the variable also.

I can't recommend a certian brand or model. The best thing I can tell you it to take your git to a music shop you know and trust and try some P/ups out. They'll let ya. Tell the person you talk to what kind of music you play, if you play with picks or fingers, what kind of tone your looking for.

I have all my acoustics miced with a small mic inside. When I play in public I use a directional mic pointing toward the sound hole in the body. Some times I use two mics, one about a foot away, the other about two feet back. The miliseconds in delay adds fullness to a large hall.
I don't have any P/ups on my acoustics, but some of the guys I play with do. The controls seem to be a bit touchy on a cheaper brand P/up. To save frustration on down the road, I'd get a good one. But $s rule, I know.

The ones I've played have tension clips so it fits right in the sound hole, and can be easily removed. Some work is involved in running the wires to the strap peg on the end of the body for the plug in. It's better to have that done or do it yourself other than have wires dangling about the face of your guitar.

I know some others here have P/ups on thier acoustics and they could possibly add more and better ideas.

Good luck.
