Floyd Rose tremolos are a pain in the ass to work with, yet they seem popular for some reason. Could someone explain this to me?

some people are masochists. :)

I blocked mine off in the back of the guitar, makes tuning simple, AND when I'm bending one string and strike another (something that occurs alot with my playing), the other string doesn't go flat due to the floating nature of floyd rose.

I wouldn't swear by a floyd rose though, at it yes, but not in it's favor hehe. It just happened to be on the guitar I have. Heck I don't even use a tremolo bar.

I'm confused by that first paragraph

Well, I don't own a floyd, but i would love to have one. Tech stuff with guitars isn't a problem with me, so I can handle taking care of a Floyd. The degree of difficulty maintaining a floyd is compromised with the whammy bar and how well they stay in tune. You can crank on a floyd's whammy bar and it won't go out of tune at all (if it is set up properly). They are very fun to use and you can make some weird sounds w/ 'em!

cool. Exactly how difficult is maintenance? The Jackson guitar company's website explained but I didn't really understand it.

There is a lot more precise adjustment involved than with a typical fixed bridge guitar. Changing strings is harder and takes longer, tuning takes longer (but once you get it in tune you really don't need to tune it much after that). Everything just seems like it has an extra step that is more complicated with a Floyd Rose.

Could you be more specific?

Can't get more specific than that!

That's where I was. I don't really understand it. I'm not huge on guitar tech stuff.

Honestly, if you didn't understand that, you shouldn't own a floyd rose. That explained completely how to change strings. So if that doesn't make sense, the floyd rose isn't for you.

I get the gist of it, I just don't know what parts they are referring to.

I personally hate the Floyd Rose- but then again, I hate all trem bridges. I'm one of those gits who prefers a hardtail...

I might want one. pay the guy across the street to tune it up for me, and pretty much dont tune it after that. I hate to tune my guitar, thats why i almost never do.

That's pretty ignorant man! Tuning isnt really that much of a problem. And a floyd will go slighty out after a while. Paying someone to TUNE your guitar is pretty dumb... it's the most simple 'adjustment' that can be done to a guitar!

20 bucks can get you an electronic tuner that is Chromatic, or a Guitar/bass tuner will make it more simple for the beginner guitarist. You could be totally deaf and still tune a guitar!

i cant afford one right this moment, not for quite a while. so i gotta get my ma to tune it. she deos it w/ pretty much no prob. when i go to school, if the person who teaches me guitar is there and i gotta break then she would tune it and teach me a little bit.
