there are at least a half a million great songs.... what kind of styles are you interested in? some of my favs are: crossroads, 4 + 20, willin', ol '55.... way too many to mention here... toss this dog a bone, how long have you been playin'.... are you acustom to open and modal tunings? blues, jass, folk, c & w, there are a lot of cool places to find tab (like here), just pick one and go with it

1) I do rock and metal type things, but when I'm just sittin' around I'll do blues/slide.
2)Been playing 2 1/2 years, but I learn fast.
3)I use open tunings sometimes, but I normally use 1/2 step down from standard tuning. I don't know what modal tunings are
4)I know where to get tab, It's just I don't know very many songs on the acoustic (that I can play or that I've heard) and I wanna learn some good ones. Not random ones. Preferably one within the last 20 years because I'm gonna get an Mp3 to go with it (can't learn unless I hear it) and there's probably nothing ripped before 1970.

sandman,

Ive been gigging around town for 25 years and have been playin' for 35 years (damn am I that old). My method is this:

1) listen to a w i d e range of songs, find one that makes my butt move... then learn it. but find one one that I can sing along with, it's much easier to learn the feel of the song that way. I would like to suggest a few artists to listen to, but, you should look into that yourself. Melody is a bit more important in acoustic music

2) find a song you already know and re-arrange it for acoustic. this is a bit harder to do. this also gives you a greater feel for the way music is composed and arranged.

3) write one yourself

if I may suggest (you knew this was coming) a song to learn is: if I could change the world, or, any unplugged stuff should be easy to find a mp3 and clapton tab is easy to find.

your choice, let me know which way you went

Hi S:

http://www.yourdreamdive.com/songs shows a directory with some of my personal favorites in chord-embedded lyric form. You'll use Acrobat to view these files.

Beyond that S, try tabcrawler.com, ultimate-guitar.com or any of the other free tab sites. Oh yeah, I have luck also using seach engines with the Boolean search "+artist +title" in which you can name your artist and title. That approach takes me to individual sites of folks like me who share their tabs from their sites.

Its all good, S.

55'gibby - I was wondering if you personally know of an accurate tab. I've seen tabs rated 5 out of 5 stars on mxtabs.net and they weren't too accurate. I know where I can find tabs, but I want to save searching time by going to a recommended accurate one

ssiowi - Look at the second post (the numbered one) and look at number 4.

I'm starting to repeat myself here. I KNOW WHERE TO GET TAB! I AM LOOKING FOR SONG RECOMMENDATIONS AND A TAB YOU'VE TRIED AND THINK IS ACCURATE.

I know exactly what you mean about not finding tabs that look right. That is what I am trying to do. The one that I have been working on for the past week or so that sounds right to me is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. I got the tab off of either mxtabs or tabcrawler. I can't remember which. The individual tab is accurate, but as far as the correct strums for the chords, I have no idea. Speaking of which, if anyone knows of any software that will chop up mp3s so I can hear just the guitar out of it, let me know. Hope I helped, but the song is great and the tab seems accurate.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it out when I have the time.
