Avatars

I don't know where I should post this, but...
For those of you w/ avatars that weren't on that one page here at cyberfret, where did you get them? I'm trying to get one of a Gibson Explorer or Explorer shaped guitar.

i just did a websearch for "avatar"....i was surprised to see how many sites offered free graphics clips...
the hardest thing will be finding one you like that fits the size restrictions for cyberfret
under 1 k...(something like 1024 b actually)
pixels cant be more than 45 x 45

all I found doing that was medievil stuff and little angels and ****, nothing relevant.

can we not use avatars anymore? i cant even use the ones offered by cyberfret.com. i got my own avatar,it was the right size and all,but it doesn't work.
I saved it,went to user options,uploaded it from my computer,but when i post, its not there.
anyone know where im going wrong?

Sandman_96707, is what you wanted similar to what is shown on mine?

If it is then try this, I went to gibson.com, looked for an explorer, copied and then pasted into a freeware graphics package I downloaded.

To adjust the size(45x45 pixels) and angle, things like that, its all self explanatory eg: rotate and resize.

If you save it as a .jpg file it will be smaller but you may have to adjust the compression till its under 1024 bytes

I dont know if this breaks ant copyright laws with the copying and pasting but I shouldn't think so.

How did you do that? When i uploaded my avatar and it didn't show i thought maybe we can't get them anymore but since u changed yours(im pretty sure u had a flag of some sort), can u please tell me how u got it to work?

slaughtered soul....my avatar is working so i dunno ....but id guess its not a mass denial by cyberfret....maybe you accidentally altered it? i dunno....hope you figure it out tho....

fury.....something tells me sandman wont be responding....EVER...so dont wait for him to change back to your original....
was good of you to offer the info tho......i was trying to do that too but i couldnt manage to make one small enough...i might try again when i get tired of the one i use now :)

slaughteredsoul, here we go:

once youve clicked on the button "Change Avatar" there are only a couple of options, go to the custom avatars section and click the yes box, then browse.

Find the file you want and open it, then submit the modifications, one of two things will happen
1.you'll be taken back to the controll panell or
2.it will tell you the file is too big

If #2 happens make sure the longest dimension is 45pixels and the total size is 1024byes or less.

I'm not that hot with computers so the way I checked was to save it in a folder, then open the folder and click once on the file to get a preview. If it was too big I would save it again only this time increase the compression(this lowers the quality but since its only small it doesn't matter)

hey,

i did exactly as u instructed, and what happened was i was taken back to the control panel, which means that it was saved right? but like i said, nothing appears under my name in the posts.
i tried with many different avatars, sometimes they were too big and i decreased the size(like u said,the quality decreases too)..still nothing...:confused:

Yes, the way you describe it, it should have worked.

Im sorry it didn't work and I dont know what else to suggest, thats as far as my limited knowledge goes.

Maybe like Jaytee said its just yours that doesn't work.:(

Where did you find it?

If I use it as mine, you could right click on it and select "save picture as" because then we would know if its the picture or not that is the problem.

All the avatars i got were over size so i had to cut,crop and resize on my computer before uploading them. i didn't keep track of the sites i got them from but THANK YOU so much:)
i won't give up on this quest for individuality ...lol...ok ill try some more then **** it...hehe

OK last time, I promise

Make sure the "Show user's avatar in their posts?" box is clicked yes, its under Thread View Options in the Edit Options part of the CP.
