Hey Everyone
This is my first post here, and I don't want to sound totally lost, but what is a Cabnit emulator used for? I bought one back about 3 years ago when I was recording with a band. We used it to try and get the guitar in with out a mic, I didn't like the sound so we scraped it and started over with a mic. But the other day I was looking at it thinking, what is this really used for?
So maybe you can help me I would love to add more toys to my already long list of crap I use, I know you all feel the same..
Thanks

Well, a cabinet emulator is just what it is called. It emulates the sound of a speaker cabinet. Let's say you are running your pedal setup directly into a mixing board... you won't get the tone of a guitar amp. The amp and the speaker add flavor to the tone. A cabinet emulator is supposed to mimic the sound of a mic'd amp. Some sound good, some sound like total trash.

Hey Thanks ESP_V
SO lets say I ran that into my amp, what would that do?? Anything at all?? I kind of thought thats what it was for. Right now I am working on my masters and don't have room to keep my HalfStack with me so I am just using a crappy effects processor (really just cheap way to get a preamp to I can use my other effects on my computer to record) would the emulator work for that to make it sound better??
If so do I run it after the effects??
Thanks

Well it is not bad to run the cab simulator into your amp, it may make it sound good, it may sound bad. And you are correct: put the cab sim at the end of your effects.

Hey Thanks.
I will try some of this stuff in next couple of days.
hey I can't get any responses to this question so maybe I will ask you, do you know anything about the PRS Santana SE? I own one and love it, I have never heard anyone on here talk about it, they talk about all other low end guitars and every way to buy a guitar that is good that doesn't cost a ton.
If you know anything that would be great
Thanks

I picked one up at the music shop and played it. When I was done I was shocked at how low the price was. It is a very nice guitar! I think it was like 400 or 500 bucks. The only thing I'd change w/ it are the pickups. They aren't high enough gain for me, and I would add some coil tapping and other push/pull knobs for extra versatility.

Yeah I agree the pickups are a little weak, but they sound good for what I am doing. I have a Strat, and its nice, but this thing blows it away. I hear people on here talking about Epiphones, and Yamahas and one other brand that I tried when I bought this one, I can't think of the name right now, something with a D I think, but I have wanted a PRS for so long that I was really attracted to this. When I bought it I was pretty sure I was paying just to have a name, but since I have not found anything in that price range that sounds as good, to include the epiphones, and a lower end les paul. I don't think I found another guitar with a neck through either!
Oh well just wanted some feed back to make sure I wasn't crazy,
the only thing I would change is the "Santana" writing on the headstock, but then the people paying 3 grand would be pissed!
One day I will have a McCarty and hate this thing but for now it kicks hard!

I have played a few PRS and I don't feel they are worth the price. They are very good quality, but that price is really steep. I am a metal player, so PRS guitars aren't really my bag. I'm always going to be an ESP and Jackson man. I love fast necks, high output pickups and the baggage that comes with it.

Yeah I have a Jackson too, its not a great one, but I always loved solos on it. I am one of those guys who loves the metal riffs, but really I get more into Rush Tool those kinds. I love queensryshe so I get my fix of metal there. I used to play a lot of Dokken so thats why I got into the Jackson feel. After getting a strat I needed something that played faster. But the PRS has always been the way I want to go. Its funny though I really don't care to have a Les Paul.

The PRS just don't appeal to me. If I see one I don't start drooling like I would if someone had a custom ESP or an American Dimebag Darrell Stealth. I am anti-Gibson in a sense, because their quality and tone just aren't worth the price tag. I love gibsons' look (les paul, SG, ES-335, etc) but the quality steers me away. ESP Japan makes some really nice les paul type guitars. They are loaded with duncans and have a floyd rose tremolo. It also has standard a coil tap push/pull knob, which is rare for a standard feature. Check it out: http://www.espguitars.net/espstandard/mavpxj/ma480ctm.html

I think 280,000 yen... so however many dollars that is... I don't know the exchange rate. But I am sure that is over a grand. Well worth it too! I'd pay gibson prices for that guitar!!

Thats one of the nicest ESP's i have seen, thats only because i love that look. I used to listen to Dokken, I always wanted an ESP because that's what he plays, then I notice you really don't see many in the stores around here, a few, but Michigan is a Les Paul fender dominated market. One can get really full of that meal after awhile. How does the ESP play, I remember playing one, it was a Jackson style, and much like my Jackson, it didn't get the tones I was looking for. I would be interested in a one like this though!

Well I know that guitar would play like a dream! With those pickups it would be able to get a wide variety of tones, especially w/ the coil tap!
