Here is how to write tablature and other fretboard diagrams in the forum so that the formatting is correct. In order for tablature to look correct and for any chord written above that tablature to look correct, you need to use a special "vB Code". There are various vB Codes that you can use in your posts to change everything from the font color to smiley faces. The code that you should use for tablature and other types of fingerboard charts is the "code" tag. This was originally designed for use with computer code, but this works well for writing tablature as well.

Check out this link for more info on how to used "vB Code"
http://guitarlodge.com/vbulletin/misc.php?action=bbcode#buttons

What you are going to do is place this tag before the tablature example. (remove the " mark, it is only there so that the forum does not interpret what I am writing as an actual code....otherwise you couldn't see it.)

["code]

And place this after the tab example....again remove the "

["/code]

Here is an example of how tablature would look without the code. The chords are note lined up with the tab, and neither is the rhythm information underneath.

Here are some examples of how the grid could be used.

Here is a basic A minor pentatonic scale using the template. The numbers show the suggested fingering for the scale.

|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -1st string
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -6th string
|
5th fret

Here is the minor pentatonic showing the scale functions.

|--1--|-----|-----|-b3--| -1st string
|--5--|-----|-----|-b7--|
|-b3--|-----|--4--|-----|
|-b7--|-----|--1--|-----|
|--4--|-----|--5--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|-b3--| -6th string

Here is an A major barre chord written on a horizontal fretboard. Fingering is indicated.

Here is where the IMG tag would be beneficial... posting the image of the chords and using the IMG tag...
For example - here is a G Bar Chord - http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j128/palerider2006/guitar/gbarchords.jpg
